I can't stand this. Detroit is still living off their Dats and Zetterberg picks.

The last guy who has made an impact in the NHL drafted outside the 4th round by Detroit was Darren Helm in 2005. Aside from him, it's only Mrazek in 10' since 05 to do anything.

In that same span, Ottawa has drafted Greening, Condra, Hoffman, Boro, Stone.

That's not counting guys like Claesson, who will certainly be playing NHL games in the near future.

year|Ott|Det
2005|Greening (204)|Helm (132)
2006|Condra (211)|Nil
2007|Nil|Andersson(88)
2008|Boroweiki (139), Zack Smith (79)|Nyquist(121)
2009|Hoffman(130)|Nil
2010|Stone(178)|Mrazek?(141)
2011|Pageau(96)|Nil
(*I've included some 3rd rounders too)

We seem to get a ton of depth guys; not sure how much of this is drafting success and how much is development, but it's nice to see us churn out NHL players.

Nyquist really stands out though, maybe if we're lucky in a year or two so will Stone and Hoffman.

Also, if you go a bit further, they have Quincey, Filpulla, and Ericsson which were all pretty good later picks.

Certainly, but every team has guys like that. I just don't understand why it is a "Detroit Model", when over the same time frame many other teams have been doing as good, or better than them. Fillpula was also a 3rd round pick, as you said.

Elliot, Emery, Laich, Schubert, Zanon and to a lesser extent Bochenski (played 150+games) were all chosen in the 4th or later in the range Fillpula was taken.
