Sens need to cut salary

The Sens should be looking to dump salary ... Curious about how much needs to be shed.

If it's 2 million dollars how would you cut it? Smith for a pick or prospect?

Sucks that a team with the 3rd lowest payroll is over budget.

Where does that comment come from? It's very odd. I can't see Melnyk not knowing the budget or at least having an idea of it.

Problem with Melnyk is that over the past 2/3 years, he's proven himself to be a compulsive liar, and says whatever he feels will benefit him for whatever conversation/ topic he is having at the time.

We could very well actually be over budget right now. Or, this could be another move in his casino fight/ post-casino-fallout. There's really no way to tell without looking at his books, which he will never divulge in a million years.

I just can't take Euge at his word anymore.

Just keep the lights and appliances at the arena shut off on weekdays until after 7 PM.

I definitely wouldn't take Melnyk at face value over anything he says.

If the budget was THAT important, we wouldn't go over it, Murray and co. wouldn't be allowed to exceed it like they apparently have.

He's also gone from name calling Watson and the city to hoping that the city and team can work something out so the whole thing was an act to try and get a casino.

I think the team definately needs more money if the cap keeps going up, but that's also the NHL's problem and it'll be a problem for many teams, not just Ottawa.

The logical move would be to trade Condra so that Mike Hoffman can play in the NHL. That dude won't clear waivers.

Every post you've made on this board for the past couple of weeks have been about money and Melnyk. There's something called lying to get attention of people so that they start pressuring the City Council for a Casino in Kanata. Nothing more than that.

Seriously, good thing the season is around the corner.

if this is the case, which i don't, we can basically kiss michalek goodbye this off-season and who knows afterwards. no offense to milan, he can be replaced, but a maxed out budget of 52million + staff + admin + travel + taxes is still somewhat of a drag

This is days old. Why are you bringing it up now?

No salary will be shed. I guarantee it.

The league knows the finances of the teams - they won't be setting a cap floor that isn't economically viable for all teams.

This is why we have to stop taking all of the Melnyk quotes so seriously.

Seriously, the Florida Panthers just sold for $250 MILLION dollars. You think a team that is "actually" losing $10-14m a year is going to sell for a quarter billion? Not a chance.

The cap ceiling and floor are set by a pre-determined mathematical formula every season based on the previous season's league-wide hockey-related revenue. So if the top 7-8 revenue generating teams in the league started raking in the dough, it will drive up the cap floor and ceiling for all of the teams, regardless of whether their own revenues are keeping the same pace or not.

It's a legitimate concern and the league has no control over where the floor is set each year.

So you want to get rid of one of the most dependable players on the team, replace him with a non NHL-player that hasn't looked good in pre-season, and then play that guy on his off wing to save $600K?

Besides the fact that Hoffman would easily clear waivers, that's really not logical at all.

Cap floor will probably be over $60mil by the end of the decade.

It is not going to be any easier being a hockey fan going forwards.

centrally planned economies don't work and the same goes for salary caps and floors. mind you, i'm sure the nhlpa loves it.
