Have been meaning to post this in one of these threads earlier, but it's more topical now than ever.

For those voting for Crookshank, why are you guys confident in him over Gruden? The Senators JUST picked Gruden ahead of Crookshank a few months ago and he seems more accomplished at this point in time.

This is from someone who knows (next to) nothing about Crookshank, I'm just curious since he seems to be getting more love than Gruden around these parts.

EDIT: And add Hollett. No reason for him not to be in the conversation with Daccord and Mandolese, imo.

Crookshank won the rookie axe throwing contest.

That and Gruden was at the summer showcase for the Americans (was eventually cut) and Crookshank wasn't even really on the radar.

Is it because his name is cooler?

Some said Crookshank really impressed at dev camp... but I agree, Gruden pretty much has to be above him at this point.

Gruden vs Crookshank is the eye test versus the stat sheet test IMO.

Crookshank is more dynamic and looks like he has more potential, but Gruden just gets the job done, as his production at 17 is far better than Crookshank's at age 18.

I'll trust the Sens scouts on this one, who selected Gruden a round above Crookshank under 2 months ago.

I like Crookshank. I think he has more skill than Gruden.

Pretty much, those prospects just got drafted so it’s a bit about who we think we’ll end up the best prospect in a few months. Of course, it could change again in the next few years but I think Crookshank will raise above Gruden in the next season. Both are intriguing and could end up legit prospects. I love those under the under the radar picks

Crookshank is Canadian so tough to compare, Gruden may not have made the Canadian camp. Gruden has suited up a decent amount for USA hockey in past tournaments.

Also, Gruden had the benefit of playing with and having chemistry with Wahlstrom, Farabee, Hughes, etc... Given that those guys are locks for the team and that Gruden has shown chemistry with them, it was worth getting a closer look.

Crookshank has higher upside whereas Gruden has a more polished game, based on hard work, positioning, intelligence and hustle. Gruden is more likely to make the NHL, but I think you're looking for a middle-class mans Tom Pyatt type of player. Crookshank, on the other hand, might have the skill to be a top 6 player.

The fact that they were drafted 31 picks apart doesn't mean a ton to me, especially at that point in the draft. I understand having Gruden ahead of Crookshank and I suspect both will rise up the ranks but there are reasons to like either player over the other.

Nurmi made great strides in a good mens league last year. I think there is potential there.

I think he has a solid chance at becoming an NHLer but maybe as an Alex Chiasson type guy, possibly with a bit more jam (he will need to get much stronger, though). It would surprise me if he became more than a solid 3rd liner but that is still a valuable piece.
