As we have been doing since 2004, we are going to use the HF criterias for prospect eligibility (less than 65 NHL games and under 25 y/o)

NHL Prospect Criteria - Hockey's Future

I have removed prospects who graduated recently (Jaros, Wolanin, Hogberg, Paul, Zub), were traded (Gruden) or not qualified (Hawryluk, Englund)

Remember to vote based on all factors and not just NHL readiness. Overall skillset, hockey IQ, upside potential vs floor, age, stats, skating ability, array of shots, leadership qualities, size/strenght, etc

Personally, I always ask myself, who would I draft BPA in priority among these players?

Try to do some research on the kids, particularly the new ones. People can post links and videos about some of the prospects that should be voted soon

Chlapik probably doesn't belong as low as he's going to land.

Why? If he's #18th that's pretty good

You can pretty much divide by 2 this year, so it would be like #9 in a normal year.

I talked a lot about it for over a year now, but let's not forget that through the firesale, we have added on top of our bottom-3 team pool :

Stuetzle, Norris, Brannstrom, Bernard-Docker, Greig, Balcers, Kleven, Sokolov, Sogaard, Gustavsson, Tychonick

Plus Abramov, Davidsson and Thomson in the Duchene deal but also gave up the 4th OA pick in 2019 and Bowers so that Duchene saga is different

Oh, yeah. Not a bad thing at all in this pool — our depth is ridiculous and this is a really good problem to have! I'd just have him above Sokolov and maybe Thomson, too (though, in full disclosure, I did vote for Thomson in his poll. Just second-guessing it.)

I hope people really enjoy having this pool because we might not see that again. If we do, it's because Melnyk decided to sell the WHOLE team again.

By the way (not that it means that much), Chlapik is :

- 57th in Pts from the 2015 Draft
- 57th in GP from the 2015 Draft

He was drafted #48th OA so he needs to start adding more GP, Pts, minutes played etc.

I'd take Sogaard or Mandolese here. Both are big guys with good athleticism.

Starting goalie potential with both, which gives them more upside than the rest of the names on the board.

Is that because you see the majority of the prospects graduating from this list or because you see a meteoric rise from Sokolov? Jumping 14 names is a huge climb

Hard to say how many games will be played for the upcoming season but it will probably be a reduced schedule, which means that a few guys won't have enough games to fully "graduate" from our rankings.

I only see Batherson, Brannstrom and Balcers completing their graduation (since they have NHL games : 43, 33, 51 respectively), so he must anticipate a "meteoric rise", which would be quite the accomplishement since there's not a lot of hockey that will be played until next summer (after the season : next time we vote on this ranking). Maybe Logan Brown too if he makes the team quickly (29 NHL Games under his belt)

Totally unrealistic to expect Sokolov to leapfrog ALL OF Sanderson, Norris, Brown, JBD, Formenton, Pinto, Greig, Jarventie, Abramov, Daccord and Thomson... maybe a few if he puts PPG numbers in the AHL. In that case, he'd have a chance to slip in the Top-10

Edit : Daccord will be 25 y/o on August 19th so he'll graduate automatically, but it depends when we'll make the polls.

You don’t count Gustavsson in that group? Gus didn’t start that well in Belleville, but he needed to be given some time to adjust to the different angles and play style of NA. He put up a .912 and .918 percent save percentage in the SHL at those other guys ages. Also, he had a pretty good WJC as a starter for Sweden.

Mandolese put up a great last season, but was wholly mediocre the three before that, though he was quite young.

Pretty easily. Klevin I see as a contributing NHLer, Balcers I see as an AHL/NHL journeyman

Gotta consider impact x potential x risk. Kleven still got ways to go. Balcers was on pace for 30 points in 70 games as a 21 year old rookie. If we talking pure potential Brown would be 2nd, Jarventie 4th.

I'm taking everything into account, I don't see Balcers as more than a call up or 13th forward on a team that isn't icing a terrible roster. He's comparable to Chlapik (I'd still rather Chlapik).

I have no doubt in my mind the Sens would keep Klevin over Balcers if they had to send one away in a trade.

I agree with your last part, but let us be honest, there is no real basis as to how people are voting for these prospects, it is all over the place.

Some will vote on perceived potential, some will vote on "status/popularity" of said prospect, some based on draft position, some based on a players trade value...

There are simply too many variables and factors to consider as it is a pretty broad spectrum of considerations.
