Yes, this a problem. Some say that faceoffs do not matter in a game but it appears otherwise. The Jets lost a faceoff on the PP last night and it was 30 seconds before we had puck possession back in the offensive zone.
No one says faceoffs don't matter. The argument is that coaches vastly overvalue faceoff wins. Yeah they're nice to win, but you're generally going to lose 40%-60% of them so it would be better to concentrate your efforts on improving elsewhere...

How so? What would you prefer, the finisher that isn't finishing that is playing well defensively, or the finisher that isn't finishing that is bleeding chances defensively?
I disagree with the fact he is helping all that much defensively. You know who did fit well there and provide a spark coupled with great defensive play? Namestnikov.

If Toffoli isn't scoring I would much rather have Names in that spot. Now we have an ineffective sniper in that spot and Names is barely even playing.

The argument is that the average faceoff doesn't matter. Over the course of a game there's probably 3 or 4 faceoffs in key situations out of 50-60 total faceoffs.

Not to mention that the inferior face-off man will win 1.8 of those 4 faceoffs anyways.
