The Ottawa Senators announced today that they have partnered with Ephesus Lighting in a deal to continue Ottawa’s upgrades at Canadian Tire Centre by bringing light-emitting diode (LED) lighting to the arena. The move to LED for the 2014-15 National Hockey League season makes it the first NHL venue to be lit with Ephesus LED lights.

It's the first PRO venue of any kind to be lit by Ephesus. They're a relatively new start-up, not even two barely four years old.

Adopting this early is probably a small risk, but I bet the price was very very good.

Source? Everything I'm seeing points to them starting up in June 2010. Although, yes, still relatively new.

Whoops, you're right, the article I was reading as a source for my post is wrong. It must have grabbed it's 2012 date from Ephesus's first big sports contract, not the founding of the company, and mistaken the two.

Good fact checking, I'll edit my post.

Not the first according to the company website. Montreal already uses it.

"To date, just one major North American sports team — the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League — has installed LED overhead lights in its stadium or arena, according to the New York Times."

On the topic of lighting, the strobes that the photographers use (in the rafters) are extremely distracting. Am I the only one on this?

Lighting was one thing that I thought we had covered in that arena. On TV, the CTC looks rather unique compared to the rest of the league because of how it's lit.

Who is the company that put in this system in Binghamton? Last season was a huge difference with modern lights.

EDIT: Never mind, it was Ephesus. So this lighting system is already in place in Binghamton folks. Ephesus is a company out of Syracuse. Go look at a video of a goal being scored this year to see what you are in for.

Sports Business Journal said:
Canadian Tire Centre is installing a new LED sports lighting system to save on energy costs and improve the quality of lighting for the players, fans at the games and network partners. The arena, run by the Ottawa Senators, spent about $500,000 for the upgrade.

Changes in last couple seasons;
New corporate naming sponor
Finnigans changed to Sportscheck style bar and grill
Installed $3M worth of monitors everywhere around the rink
Spent half a million upgrading lighting in arena.

I personally am glad they are doing what they can to keep the CTC modern and not letting it slip into Rexall/Nassau territory.
