powell has obp skills which seattle badly needs.

farquhar has been really underrated the last few years. miller is okayish. morrison stinks on ice.

TB got the end of the better deal, but Seattle didn't Johan Santana Twins this trade either.

Powell is nice, but his swing needs fixing. Good OBP skills. I like Karns too.

Boog Powell. One of the better players they got when the A's got Zobrist.

A's ended up getting more for Zobrist than Tb did. Manaea has front end potential.

Don't know much about Powell but Karns is a good get. Fills the gap if Iwakuma walks. Felix-Walker-Paxton-Karns-Elias. Miller is meh but serviceable.

Isn't Dave Cameron obsessed with Brad Miller?

they still have problems, one of them being a lack of starting pitching depth and obp in the lineup.

this trade addresses both. but no, they didn't improve. not at all.

They have so many problems that this doesn't mean much. Outside of Felix they lack the pitching. Iwakuma is serviceable. That Cano contract looks worse by the day. Never would have guessed Cruz would be better last year than 2014.

Did you expect all their problems to be solved in one trade?

I like it for both teams. Morrison is useful against righties but you shouldn't start him lefties. Miller versatility reminds of Zobrist - rare combination of power and athleticism. Farquhar is really good pitcher. Karns is meh but could provide innings. Powell is all about OBP - exactly what M's need badly.

Really nice trade for Seattle.

Morrison and Farquhar were both negative WAR players last year and are no loss at all. Miller is a decent hitting/mediocre fielding SS who is really probably more of a 2B, and is the only asset here with value.

In exchange they get a quality SP who misses bats (and will probably thrive at Safeco) and a quality OF prospect.

What a stupid trade. Rays don't need bench depth for the playoffs and the Mariners aren't rebuilding. Seems like something that would be proposed on here

Mariners move a guy they probably would have non tendered anyways in LoMo. Powell gives them an outfield prospect that can contribute as soon as next year, and can probably put up a respectable OBP compared to LoMo. They also didn't have a need for Miller with the emergence of Marte, as well as having Chris Taylor still who figures to bounce back. They were trying to turn him into a Zobrist and he was failing miserably at it.

This probably reveals my relative dearth of AL knowledge, but Miller seems like someone who might find success with the Rays.

Kearns is definitely a serviceable MLB pitcher, and a nice minor addition for Seattle.

Karns will be a good starting pitcher for SEA. I guess the Rays saw him as expendable with all the pitching they have but that includes Erasmo and Colome and they could easily be terrible next season. Rays are just trying to plug holes for less.
