I wouldn't necessarily term it a fire sale, more that they're getting some assets for a 38 year old reliever to replenish the farm after last year's moves.

ah ok, but he still was one of the best relievers in baseball even though he is 38. just didnt make sense for a second

i wonder also if this trade might be a precursor to a simmons trade with atlanta. getting some more prospects. unlikely but possible

Apparently 15 teams were inquiring about Benoit.

If that's the case, I'm ruling out O'Day to Detroit unless they vastly overpay.

Benoit is getting old as all hell but he's been really effective over the last 5 years. He misses a lot bats and goes after the hitter like a rabid wolverine.
