I like the idea that Chiarelli is willing to take the cap hit just to not play the guys that don't fit.

I dunno, I think he would have bounced back to ~.915 save percentage had he stayed

edit: I also think he gets claimed.

Wow. The amount of people who sat and said "There is zero chance they would waive Nikitin and Scrivens, they make too much money all of you are crazy to think they would".

See what good management is willing to do, use the right pieces instead if the expensive ones.

Hopefully he clears waivers because I still think he is at least a serviceable backup goaltender

Loving Chia so far. Nilsson is the better option no doubt. Was never a fan of Scrivens on and off the ice but wish him the best.

I just wrote a longish post in the Goaltending thread, finishing off with something had to be done re: Nilsson and Scrivens ASAP...hopefully tomorrow. I see that the coach and Management are quite on top of things.

I think this was the right call.

I'm loving this. First Nikitin, now Scrivens. And it makes sense. Why let certain players contribute to ruining our season just so we can "get our money's worth" by playing them in the NHL? Get them off the roster, and ice the best product with what we've got.

:yo:

We're waiving a heart and soul player who was the best player on this team for a considerable stretch as little as 18mths ago.

A player who despite everybody was saying was lousy last year was easily the better choice in net than Victor Fasth.

Scrivens was only supposed to be a backup here. The Oilers failed him in that regard by failing to get a #1 any time in his tenure.

All Scrivens ever did here is be better than whatever other options we had in net. Wouldn't surprise me if he battled hard for a lot of games this year and would be a solid backup.

An astute club in need of a backup should consider this guy. Unfortunately for Scrivens a lot of NHL clubs are set.

I'll say it. The Oilers have screwed this guy over. Like they have done with countless other players.

not going to cheer for this
