I always like these guys takes on things. The Hockey Writers. They talk about the series and game two:

Pittsburgh Penguins Present Unique Challenge for the Sharks

Pittsburgh’s speed is one thing. However, what it equates to is a whole new animal for the Sharks and especially their goaltender, who hasn’t necessarily been tested yet in these playoffs. At least, not like this.

Jones hasn’t been all that busy.

Pittsburgh will change that and there’s little San Jose can do about it. It’s simply a strength of theirs that no one has been able to nullify. If you need proof of that, look no further than the Penguins’ plus-75 shot differential and the fact that they’ve out shot their opponents 524-449 through their 19 postseason games.

The Sharks have 413 shots and a plus-12 differential through the same amount of contests.

It’s no fluke that Pittsburgh is in the Stanley Cup Final and leading the series by a game thus far. San Jose is a formidable opponent and will definitely push back but can they actually stop the Penguins?

I don’t believe it’s possible right now.

Not sure why the Sharks are even showing up then I guess, this series seems all but over? :help:

Oh yeah, it's 1-0 in the series. Decided by a 1 goal game..

The focus is on the Pens speed. It's in the opponents heads, GMs across the league already looking to copying the Pens blue print. Pens in 5.

Please point to even the smallest source of evidence for such a statement.

If the so-called blueprint is get as many skilled fast skating players as you can on your team, that is hardly a McDonald's secret sauce that the Pens discovered.

So technically he is correct. But no one is copying anything. Except for some moron GM's and coaches over the years (grind em grind em, skill does not matter!), most seem to look for highly skilled players who can skate, and always have.

It's almost like speed is a newfound skill, right?

Okay moving on.. Evidence as to the speed being in the Sharks players heads? Who's up next?

In their heads no. A challenge to deal with, obviously. It pretty much is one of a couple of keys to the series. The other might be the Sharks PP and keeping it in check, mostly by not taking penalties.

In which PIT owned them in scoring chances and shots.

This I can agree with. The notion presented by many 'fans' or even neutrals that the Sharks are done for is getting old though. This is a series that is 1-0. Decided by 1 goal game... Yet the writing is apparently on the wall already. :shakehead

Yeah, I never get when people deny reality, or try to gloss it over. The goal is to understand what went wrong and change that reality going forward to the extent you can. Denying or trying to lawyer what happened does no good.

The truth is if the Sharks do not change what went on in game one they lose this series, and not in seven games. They certainly have a skilled team and smart coach, so I expect them to make most of the right moves and adjustments.

The thing to watch for is whether those adjustments will make a difference. The depth and skill of the Pens are why they advanced this far, and no one really had an answer for either. There were some great teams who just never could find the secret sauce, so it will be interesting to see if the Sharks do so. The ball certainly is in their court after game one to show that they can.

I love the stats and arguments (to the point that I drive our Mod Cole nuts). But I NEVER present anything that I say as some predetermined outcome. I much prefer setting out the challenges each team faces and leaving it at that. The Sharks certainly can win tonight and this series and I would not be surprised if either happened.

They will have to change the dynamic and I certainly hope that they do not. But I will not be shocked if they do. They are a great team.

And this series will be a treat to watch because of those challenges each team has and seeing if they can adapt to overcome them.

Where have I implied anything that is an attempt to deny reality or "gloss it over"? I'm simply pointing out that it was one god damn game, lol. The Sharks killed the Preds in the first two games and then got their ***** handed to them for 75% of the next two games, both losses.

The idea that this series is over already is silly. If the Sharks don't adjust and play the same game they did, I agree, the Pens are likely winning this in 5 or 6. But some people are already counting the Sharks down and out, which is simply wrong.

I don't care who wins the SC. I'd like to see the Sharks because of Jumbo Joe.

But I also want to see Kessel hoist it
