Blue Jays Discussion: Save some runs for the other games, guys. (Jays score team record 28 runs in Friday night drubbing of Red Sox. Yes, that says 28. In one game)

Why did the Jays pay so much for Tucker Tolman? They thought much more highly of him than all other teams?
He would only sign for the Jays. His true talent level isn't indicative of where he was picked. It is somewhat similar to what happen when we picked Bo. Really talented high school players have a fair amount of leverage if they are willing to use it.

He was projected to go in the first round. As high as the high teens or low 20s. Baseball isn’t like other sports where the top talents go in order. Whoever is willing to sign them works out deals prior to the draft so draft position means nothing. Happens every year. Texas took Brock Porter in the 4th round, who was expected to be a top 15 picks and they paid him $3M.

Interesting. Any reason he would only sign with TO? Is that really true?

Oops maybe the last comment clears things up. The deal was arranged well before. He was happy. Would he tell every other team he isn’t signing if they pick him?

Based off comments made by Toman and others, player development. Jays have their Dunedin complex which is a major selling point to players and they’ve been aggressively promoting guys when they see advanced talent (Kirk, Tiedemann, etc.).

Pretty much. Someone who knew Toman was at his draft party basically said the Jays have a done deal with Toman an hour before he was picked.

Tweet was at 11:27 and he was drafted at approximately 12:24.

Also the other poster isn’t wrong. Some prospects prefer to land with certain teams and they don’t care where they are drafted or in some cases, how much money they get.

Bichette was one. Toman was another. Groshans and Kloffenstein were rumored to be one and Martin as well

Thanks to both of you.

Otto Lopez jacking up his value at the perfect time. 3-3 tonight, with an inside the park home run, a out of the park home run and a double. Wow! Atkins loving it
I take it back! Biggio for Happ, Lopez takes Biggio's spot!

I think Bo said they were the only team that wanted him to keep doing his thing at the plate and wasn't looking to tone down the leg kick or something.

That price is ridiculous. Their #1, 3 and 5 prospects plus another. One top 15 prospect and another top 100. Happy not to pay that. That’s like us paying Moreno, Groshans, Beltre and another prospect

Marte is a top 15 prospect in baseball. Seattle has to have a deal in place to re-sign him to pay that price. They said they had a lot of money in the offseason and really only signed Ray. They probably saved funds for this.

I’m fine with keeping Moreno, Tiedemann, and Orelvis and go after some higher end rentals like Rodon. Happy with guys like Syndergaard, Quintana, Eovaldi, Smyly, Bard etc.

Imagine what Soto is going to get Washington

Seattle paid a premium also because they are under a lot of pressure. They haven’t made the playoffs in 21 years

At least now we know getting ahead a few days might be costly! Ha. We can gamble and see if prices come down, but you risk missing out.

Let the Yankees overpay for Montas and get crazy and get Lopez. Or just put Moreno on the table and keep adding until Ohtani is north of the border.
