Darnit to heck, so now the Vikings will trade up for JJ and he will stink? Sounds unfun

He is being signed to be a starter, albeit temporarily, so he isn't going to sign for 2 mil

But you see the point?

He’s a back up and team was willing to pay him 10M

Yet there are plenty of great to star players who can only dream of getting similar money

That is the going rate for a bridge starter QB, Trubisky got around the same amount from the steelers a few years ago, Teddy Bridgewater has multiple deals like that, it pays to be a QB that has some starting capability, even if it's not anything special.

Vikings are a team that does tend to get more out of less from their quarterbacks. They got closer to the Super Bowl with Case Keenum than Kirk Cousins.

But why?

You know paying for Darnold will achieve absolutely nothing and just increases the chances of Jefferson wanting out

You have to be able to do better than this and paying Darnold is just wasting 10M

Because starters make more than reserves? You also get what you pay for, if you want a guy that can possibly play well enough to win a few games, then those guys cost more than the guys that can't

Giants are the team if they want pass to ensure that they secure JJ. But, JJ isn't a day 1 starter and needs to sit. Not sure I'd be willing to give up future 1sts with Darnold as my QB. No clue what the early projection is for the 2025 draft. Don't think those like Drew Allar who was a SO at PSU did as well as expected. Ewers from TX will be eligible. Beck from Georgia. But, not sure any would be locks to go top 3-5.

Just don't know that you can trade up and sit your just drafted QB who is costing you extra draft picks.

Hopefully this is just to be a 6 game bridge QB then he sits on the bench forever while the Vikings newly drafted QB turns into a star.

Penix and Nix could start next season. McCarthy feels like he needs to sit longer than 6 weeks. See how his preseason goes for whichever team takes him.

I mean with what Wash has done with MM signing feels like they don’t expect their QB to even backup with MM and Howell.

Maybe Howell is on the block?

Seems odd to move someone on a rookie deal making like $900K who can be a QB2. Unless they got like a 3rd whom they could then use on someone who at least plays sub-packages for them. Would give them 3 3rds to use and rebuild the Defence and add to the OL. But, MM has an injury history as well to consider, so don't want to risk tossing Maye in too early.

New coaching staff with no ties to him, move him now before he plays more and hurts his value more

They could. Not sure how the dynamic would be if they took Maye who did RS behind Howell. But, that's college and Howell knew he was a 2 year returning starter so no fear of the big shot FR. This is the pros and money is on the line.

See how it all plays out. Maybe now teams want to carry 3 QBs with so many guys getting hurt in the prior couple of years.

O'Connell made Joshua Dobbs and Nick Mullens look somewhat competent for short stretches last year as well. Darnold while not any good himself, is probably better than both those guys.

But yea they're definitely getting someone else no latter than April 26th. Likely within the first 40 picks.

Will be the first time he isn't on a dogshit offense. Let's see if he has anything when given a chance to succeed.

Of course you can. Rushing a guy not ready to start is dumb af regardless of who you have at QB. Some seasons are a lost cause. This will be one for the Vikings.
