vabm8, It's about wanting the puck in the right circumstances. So, yes it is a lot about both wanting to do different things, but they both want that puck on their stick.

Should Uher be in both RFA and Unsigned Prospects?

Also, any bets on how many threads get chewed through before Fleury's position is resolved? Or is it always that busy around here?

Not really related to the Penguins, but it probably has Fleury trade implications:

If the Ducks re-sign Andersen, that takes him out of the trade market and leaves basically just Fleury as an actual starting goalie.

There have been rumors about Elliot actually. STL aren't really in as bad of a dilemma as we are, but they want to make the best out of their assets before the draft. After Elliot's last season I imagine that his stock could be pretty high so it kinda makes sense.

Let's enjoy the Cup and see how this plays out. That's the beauty of this summer. I am putting full faith in JR and Sully. Let them figure it out and i'll enjoy the ride.

.................and the analytics guys. They are digging up the next Hagelin/Daley as we speak.

Hagelin didn't need to be dug up; that the guy was good has always been obvious.

I've never been one to rip Boudreau, but I seriously question his abilities as a coach if he could figure out a way to get anything out of Carl Hagelin. Maybe the lowest-maintenance 17 goal guy in the NHL right now.

Daley didn't need to be dug up either. He was good in Dallas, his skill set very clearly fit our defensive scheme and he was available for practically nothing.

The guy had 16 goals in 2014/15 season for the Stars. Glad he was bad for the Hawks and we got rid of Scuds for a top 4 16 goal Dman.:yo: Too bad we wont get Goligoski, our puck moving would be the best in the league easily.

Stanbo has been making some pretty bad trades lately IMO. Happy that we could take advantage of it.

In slight fairness to him, he realized the huge cap crunch they'd be in and probably wanted to get out from under a bit of it before the summer even started....that being said, swapping those two players is about as lopsided as it gets.

Didnt even realize Caggiula signed with the oilers a month again. What exactly about that organization seems like a good move for a young career? Hes not a defencemen but why Edmonton of all places...

Elliot to us as Flower replacement or Elliot to one of the teams desperate for a goalie?

Problem with Elliot for the latter is his contract expires and who knows how much he wants or if he even wants to stay. Handing out good assets for a rental can't be part of the game plan for Flames/Leafs. Flower comes at a controlled cost and three years. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them decided to try and wait it out one more year in the hope of Elliot (or Bishop, if they're feeling ambitious)

What's the deal with UFAs and the draft anyway? They don't count right? Can we just let them expire then resign them post expansion draft?

Armstrong doesn't seem to be hesitant to move him atleast. Althought I can understand why Fleury would be more desirable.

UFAs will not have to be protected. I think expansion teams can take them although It wouldn't be the greatest of ideas I guess. So signing people to one year contracts during the off season could prove to be beneficial, yes.

Young players probably figure they can step right into a big role while foregoing the usual AHL/cup of coffee/depth role path of development. And they are often right. The issue being, of course, that that's a usual path of development for most young players for a good reason. Something the Oilers seem to have trouble grasping.

Daley, I understand. He's a 5'10 D who, despite those 16 goals in his last season in Dallas, was getting lit up the other way, probably on account of a hip injury that needed surgery. 33 year old, undersized D having hip surgery and struggling on a new team...I don't blame a lot of people for writing him off (though I can't explain why Chicago would have wanted Scuderi...that's a mystery to me).

But Hagelin didn't have any of those knocks against him, is an uncomplicated player who had success in the NHL from day 1--including in the playoffs. That Boudreau couldn't get anything out of him is very damning to me.

Plus with Edmontons top-6 of first overalls and draisaitl hes not exactly going to get much top-6 playing time. Add in Edmontons pick from this year that will be a forward (again) and might play in the nhl right away.

Don't worry. Edmonton will find a way to ruin him. Just give it (not much) time.

With the Vatanen signing any chance the Pens have a third pairing of Despres-Schultz next season? :) :sarcasm:

So now that Vatnen is signed, so you think the Ducks would be willing to move Despres for Kunitz? im assuming they extend Lindholm too, and keep those two and Fowler, making someone else on their blueline expendable.

Okay maybe that is crazy talk. And that would leave us a conundrum as we still need to protect 58 (maybe not depending on the ruling), Olli, Dumo and DP.

His drop off there is so incredible. He was good for the Rangers, brilliant for the Pens and he has so many tools. It really is amazing that he seemed lost or useless for 4 months and we were the beneficiaries in such a big way.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that it probably has something to do with Edmonton having a glut of talented young centers he could grow with.

I think this should be an easy offseason. 2 trades, 2 signings.

Trade Flower to Calgary for a 2017 1st
Trade Pouliot to St. Louis for Elliot and a pick
Resign Lovejoy and Schultz for around 4 million per year (combined).

I cant inderstand signing Bennett. Makes no sense to me. Still trying to figure out where Wilson fits.

Yes, St Louis is going to trade their #1 goalie for a D prospect with less than 60 NHL games to his name. Oh and they'll add. :biglaugh:

How many NHL D do you think we need? You'd give us 7 all making 2m+. Not to mention that Lovejoy alone will make over 3m on his next contract and that Schultz might be close to that as well. It wouldn't surprise me if those two after they've signed have a combined AAV of 6.5-7m. But yeah, lets sign Lovejoy! Clearly you've forgotten all the love Lovejoy has gotten since we re-acquired him.

You can't understand Rutherford signing a 23 yr old 6-2 winger who has the skill to be a top 6 guy, on a team that doesn't have a lot of skilled wingers? Oh, and he makes peanuts. Really? I mean this one should be pretty simple to understand.
