Even Jesse Marshall's drinking the Kool-Aid:

I still think Perron starts the season on the third line. Maybe a message is being sent. Or maybe Johnston wants to see other combos.

@JoshYohe_PGH the fact that we're talking about a guy like that being on the 3rd line is a testament to how good the depth has become

I find it interesting but unsurprising that bloggers, media, etc aren't even asking why Perron is on the RW or why Perron only got 1-1/2 periods of a look with Crosby while Kunitz got two full games.

Perron being on the fourth or third line isn't the only issue.

The trade Perron push is absolutely nuts... we only have a limited amount of scoring wingers... you move Perron now and you better be sure that Kunitz and duper haven't fallen right off that 35+ cliff that every player sees, that Sprong is ready, and that you aren't having any real injuries... Its a desperation move that is utterly unnessesary...... people forget during the cup run outside of Pittsburgh everyone thought our D was trash... scuds was an unknown. Letang was unproven.
here is a roster from that year...
http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/PIT/2009.html

if you don't think we can piece together a better d with higher upside with what we have right now without cutting to the bare bones on offensive depth you are nuts... we don't need big sexy names to make a defense work...

A message is being sent alright...

If they waive Ben Lovejoy, that has to go down as the worst asset management this team has ever seen.

Did someone say he may get waived?

I think actually seeing a full NHL defense and forward group might be helpful. Based on half line-ups, it is really hard to tell what the defense is yet much less how much it is going to struggle, if Perron is expendable for top 4 help, or if a trade is needed now or can wait.

If Sprong is returned to the Q can he come back up for playoffs?

Chris Earnitz with another well-deserved season on the top line.

Guess we should be thankful Dupuis isn't playing on Malkin's LW. All in due time.

Just got off the phone, I heard lines for last game will be:

Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis

Plotnikov - Malkin - Kessel

Sprong - Bonino - Hornqvist

Bennett - Cullen - Perron

My buddy showed me a blurb on Inside Pittsburgh Sports. Said that Guerin is the one who orchestrated that trade, and he's the one going to bat for Lovejoy now. Said that JR has no problem waiving him.

If that is true, Guerin should be escorted out of the front office by authorities, and then violently beaten. I want him no where even close to this front office.

This team right now is not the situation to break in a new coach, or allow a new asst GM to cut his teeth. No! No! No!

That's no way to talk about this team's next gm.

Old news, IMO. Guerin's whole obsession with bringing Lovejoy in was probably really personal. He seems like the guy who'd hold someone's off-ice character to absurd heights over how they actually play hockey.

I find it hilarious that Jesse, who seems like a pretty smart guy except for his over reliance on fancy stats, thinks those line combos are all about balanced scoring rather than playing favorites.
