HOT DOG HOT DOG HOT DIGGITY DOG

Imma buy 4 Dahlin jerseys now

11.5 would have been fair for 8 years with the cap increases and salary inflation, just like the NFL and NBA.

We got a bit of a discount.
You just had to sing that song, now its stuck in my head.

Incredible news - max term was the most important piece. Having to bid against the entire league for him in 4 years would have been a nightmare.

This could be considered a discount when compared with the possible scenario of 10x4 now and 15x4 in UFA under a $95m future cap. We bought however many UFA years for a very reasonable price.

Pegulas are willing to spend when it comes to real, long-term quality. They're not perfect, but this is a good sign from ownership. Hopefully the boring, misguided "cap floor" quibbles will quiet down now.

Not sure if it's related, but Bettman sharing revenue projects of the cap going up next year by $4m-$5m probably helped both sides. Dahlin can align his expectations, and the Sabres were able to get more comfortable with this figure.

Seems the Cozens and Thompson deals are team friendly. This one, not so much
So I put this in the UFA post, but something to consider is that they were buying up all but 1 year of UFA of the 8 years.

Labor costs (i.e. NHL contracts) are not myopic.

Is the base salary of $11 M x 8 years correct? Rasmus Dahlin Contract, Cap Hit, Salary and Stats - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

If so, Sabres missed out on an opportunity to lower the cap by paying more money up front and chose not to do that. Without question, Dahlin would want more money upfront.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy he has signed. But there is a missed opportunity here. I'm sure I will get yelled at over this, but the time value of money does make the contract worth more if paid up front.

Now, if the Cap Friendly info is just a placeholder, this is 100% wrong.

How the contract is paid out matters in a big way.

Yes, bottom line — a relief.

EDIT: Cap friendly updated. Pegula paid up.

It is front loaded a bit, with bonuses and higher salary in the first two years.

Terry paid up and front-loaded the contract. Ignore previous comments.

Was hoping for 10 million a year but doesn't really matter that much. Term is more important.

People were talking about 5-6 year term and that didn't make sense because Dahlin says he loves it here and the team.

Glad to see we are building a solid core.

Power's deal will be the real challenge. You want 8 years, but the sample size is too small for his side to argue a massive pay day.

This is where Kevyn and co. can show some acumen.
I would not be upset with a 3 year bridge deal and a 7-8 year deal after.

10-11 years of team control is better than 8.

:dunno:

Very happy to hear the negotiations over the contract are over, that he has put pen to paper, and that the whole thing is now a problem of the past. I've been following his career since he was sixteen years old and think he is worth every Swedish krona.
