First things First: Draft Dahlin
Then...
Trade 1:
To Carolina:
C-Ryan O’Reilly
D- Jake McCabe
To Buffalo:
D- Justin Faulk
F- Elias Lindholm
- Buffalo still needs more (quality) defense after getting Dahlin, and more who play Housley’s style. In this deal, they get Lindholm as well, who can stopgap as 2C until Mittelstadt is ready and then he can move and be a top-6 winger.
-Carolina wanted to get “tougher”. McCabe and O’Reilly do that. O’Reilly also becomes the 1C, and along with Staal and Rask can allow Necas to slow burn, and allow Aho and Teravainen to stay on the wing where they’ve been successful. McCabe can play on either side and can be part of a solid young group with Hanifin/Slavin/Pesce/Bean/Fleury/McKeown.
Trade 2:
To Pittsburgh:
D- Nathan Beaulieu
2019 4th Round Draft Pick
To Buffalo:
W- Carl Hagelin
-Buffalo gets a veteran left winger who has been with a winning organization.
-Pittsburgh was reportedly in on Beaulieu when he was available last off-season. They have solid wingers, but can never have enough defensemen and also save some cap space as well.
Trade 3:
To Los Angeles:
C-Johan Larsson
W-Justin Bailey
To Buffalo:
F- Trevor Lewis
-Buffalo gets a jack of all trades, master of none who can plug in around the lineup wherever needed. And adds much needed speed to the lineup.
-Los Angeles is able to keep neutral cap space. They get a guy in Larsson who can play center or wing in the bottom-6, adds some grit, can win face offs, and does the dirty work in the corners. Bailey gives them a big guy with a lot of speed, who can hopefully put it all together with a change of scenery.
