First things First: Draft Dahlin

Then...

Trade 1:
To Carolina:
C-Ryan O’Reilly
D- Jake McCabe

To Buffalo:
D- Justin Faulk
F- Elias Lindholm

- Buffalo still needs more (quality) defense after getting Dahlin, and more who play Housley’s style. In this deal, they get Lindholm as well, who can stopgap as 2C until Mittelstadt is ready and then he can move and be a top-6 winger.

-Carolina wanted to get “tougher”. McCabe and O’Reilly do that. O’Reilly also becomes the 1C, and along with Staal and Rask can allow Necas to slow burn, and allow Aho and Teravainen to stay on the wing where they’ve been successful. McCabe can play on either side and can be part of a solid young group with Hanifin/Slavin/Pesce/Bean/Fleury/McKeown.

Trade 2:
To Pittsburgh:
D- Nathan Beaulieu
2019 4th Round Draft Pick

To Buffalo:
W- Carl Hagelin

-Buffalo gets a veteran left winger who has been with a winning organization.

-Pittsburgh was reportedly in on Beaulieu when he was available last off-season. They have solid wingers, but can never have enough defensemen and also save some cap space as well.

Trade 3:

To Los Angeles:
C-Johan Larsson
W-Justin Bailey

To Buffalo:
F- Trevor Lewis

-Buffalo gets a jack of all trades, master of none who can plug in around the lineup wherever needed. And adds much needed speed to the lineup.

-Los Angeles is able to keep neutral cap space. They get a guy in Larsson who can play center or wing in the bottom-6, adds some grit, can win face offs, and does the dirty work in the corners. Bailey gives them a big guy with a lot of speed, who can hopefully put it all together with a change of scenery.

Free Agency:
Re-Sign:
Sam Reinhart- 3yrs $3.75M AAV
Scott Wilson- 2yrs $1M AAV
Elias Lindholm- 3yrs. $3.5M AAV
Sign Carter Hutton 2yrs. $3.5M AAV

Lineup

Forwards:
Rodrigues-Eichel-Okposo
Hagelin-Lindholm-Reinhart
Lewis-Mittelstadt-Olofsson
Wilson-Girgensons-Baptiste
Extras: Pominville, Smith

Defense:
Scandella-Faulk
Dahlin-Ristolainen
Guhle-Bogosian
Extra: Nelson

Goalie:
Hutton
Ullmark

Your team will not be very good if you're rolling with Hutton and Ullmark. Go for Grubauer.

Your trades weren't too bad.

No thanks on the first few but I'd welcome lewis. Hutton is fine if we can do no better elsewhere. Carolina trade is a no go for me. Faulk is not the defender we need.

I'm telling you if this team is going to trade O'Reilly, they might as well just do it for futures. So when we're talking the never ending, unlikely trade with Carolina, we should be looking at: Necas, Bean, Gauthier, Kuokkanen, Fleury, Wallmark, Nedeljkovic, Saarela. As well as the obvious NHL fits which to a degree Lindholm fits of course.

Why in the world would reinhart ever accept a 3 year 3.75 mil bridge deal? If hes gonna get bridged it will be a 2year deal with more money than that. Dude just came off a 50 pt season

So trade a sure thing for a batch of lotto tickets...just because? I'll dislike this post.

That O'Reilly trade makes no sense for us whatsoever...
None of them do because the people that want him traded have a low opinion of him. The people that value him highly wouldn’t trade him. So you only get these crazy lowball offers. Such a massive gulf between the 2 ends of the spectrum.

The ROR trade scares me. If Faulk turns it around, it could be a decent trade. If Faulk doesn't, its a bad trade and Buffalo becomes a worse team then before. And our lowest scoring offence scores less.

that ROR trade is straight garbage. if Botterill decides to trade him we're getting a lot better than that for him.

omg look at your forward lines, they're horrid. did you make some bet with some friends as to who can make the worst lineup from Sabres parts?

Forwards:
Rodrigues-Eichel-Okposo
Hagelin-Lindholm-Reinhart
Lewis-Mittelstadt-Olofsson

If the cap goes up to 80 million, Buffalo will have 30 million to play with and the only big ticket players to sign would be Reinhart and a goalie. I say we get in the Tavares sweepstakes. 10.5 million for 7 years. Put O'Reilly on his wing. Sign Reinhart 4 million for 2 years.

If ROR is traded I suspect Arizona, Vancouver, Calgary will be mentioned, but the Islanders would be my front runner. Imo.

I don’t really want to trade O’Reilly. I just have a feeling that they will to change out the core. I’d prefer a 1 for 1, but that would then leave them lacking down at center.

I have a crazy idea... keep ROR. And give him good wingers who are quicker and not a liability defensively.

... Profit

Even just one better winger to push Wilson down into a role where he can play his energy game in the bottom 6... and then it improves both lines at the same time. Crazy ideas man, you are putting out crazy ideas.

Can we just get Justin Faulk out of our heads please? He's a 2nd pairing, PP specialist. He's always been overrated cause he scored a bunch of powerplay goals. He's Carolina's like 4th or 5th best defenseman lol

Also, no to Tavares.

That O'Reilly trade makes no sense for us whatsoever...

It really makes little sense for the Canes either...we have a logjam at C and LHD, we'd be looking to offload Rask, not Lindholm, and prefer literally any RHD over McCabe.

At least someone realizes Buffalo isn't getting top futures from Carolina for ROR. We need him less than any other NHL team and likely just won't pay what another team will.
