Pulock doesn’t just have a chance to be a good player for the Islanders. He has franchise defenseman potential, and I think we’re going to look back and wonder how on Earth he slipped to the Isles and didn’t go in the top 10 at the draft.
It’s all really dependent on how his defensive game pans out at the NHL level. We already know that, at minimum, he’s going to be super with the puck and a 40 or 50-point player. But if he can continue to upgrade his all-around capabilities (and he’s started to do that over the past year), he’ll be the type of keystone every team needs on defense.
Stay tuned, because the Ryan Pulock show opens this fall.

I didn't see a discussion for Pulock so I figured I'd make one since he should be up with the big team this year. I'm excited to see how he'll do.

I'm very pleased with Pulock's development and fit for the team. If you recall, he was widely considered to be the 2nd best d-man prospect behind Seth Jones before his draft season. As an older prospect for his class, he fell due to injuries and questions about his upside since he had 3 WHL seasons as opposed to the 2 for most draftees.

I think he could be something along the lines of Aucoin, Souray, and MacInnis. This kid's shot is ELITE in almost every facet and he has the smarts of knowing what to do with it. As a 3rd pairing and PP specialist, he could have a huge impact even this upcoming season.

Love this Kid. The Tank has had a nice development path this far.

I'm not worried about his offense at all. I just hope he really takes care of business on the defensive end. If he does that, we a legit top4 and maybe more on our hands.

Very excited for Pulock.

With snow you never know what moves he may or may not make and when he may or may not make them. But as it stands with him not bringing in a get defender it looks as though Pulock will have the chance to earn a job with the big boys in camp.

I think if he is able to develop his defensive game he could become a true #1 Dman. I'm really liking these Weber comparisons.

Although I really like Pulock as a prospect, he'll never bring the nasty like Weber.

Pulock is going to add a whole new dimension to the powerplay when he's ready. Very few teams have that kind of weapon from the point and it will make everyone including JT even more dangerous since the penalty killers will have more to worry about defending.

Friedman loves to go crazy, eh?

This year all we need Pulock to do is to play quietly at ES and just let him stretch out the opposing team's PK.

He's more than just a canon shot. Sure that will get him recognition, but he has excellent offensive instincts, an excellent wristshot, a good passer, and good to great hockey sense. Defensively, he's a much better skater than Reinhart ever was, not a speed demon, but certainly fast enough. Also, already has an NHL body. Very strong kid. Unless he has a bad camp, I expect him to make the team and be a key player helping run the PP. Would not be shocked if he scores 10 goals and makes the all rookie team. Very high on Pulock. Our first home grown offensive dman in many years.

Call me biased, but if Pulock winds up with Spurgeon type stats, we are in trouble. I expect a lot more from Pulock. I don't think Spurgeon ever had the offensive upside Pulock has.

Having watched Pulock his full WHL career, I expected him to struggle defensively at the AHL level. I'm happy to have been wrong and he seems to have carried over his calm demeanor and knows how to make the smart, simple play. So many defensemen struggle maintaining the ability to do that as they move up the ladder. Hopefully it continues into the NHL, but if it doesn't right away, I hope people here don't turn on him as they did Reinhart. I get the feeling there's a silent group ready to do just that if given the opportunity.

There is always a group of gloom and doomers that are always at the ready for anyone, JT included.

Really excited to see Pulock start his NHL career next season.

It looks like he's going to get a legit shot this training camp. With Vis gone and the team needing another PP D-man on the point, the opening is there for the taking. I really think Mayfield is going back to BP, at least to start the season.

Other than his junior career, there was no a whole lot to get excited about with Reinhart. Which may just be because of his style of play. Pulock seems to be more well rounded. Unless he is MAB 2.0, I would not worry about people turning on him. Hopefully he will be Aucoin 2.0.

It's not like I can say much because I've never seen Pulock play in person but where did he get this Weber comparison? I've never gotten the sense that Pulock had anywhere near the physicality of Weber. Give me rich man's Aucoin, or poor man's Subban, and I'm thrilled.

He may end up being the only player in the league that can rival Weber's shot. Otherwise, no other comparisons stand out. He's definitely more of an Aucoin.
