That calder cup team, their best forwards were the duo of Andrei Kostitsyn and Grabo, they were pretty sick. But they had a strong team, Locke and Milroy, Chipchura, D'Agostini, plus a veteran blueline. In the playoffs in addition to Price, Chipchura, Locke, Milroy, D'Agostini, Lappy, Manlow, AJ Baines, Jancevski, Benoit, Danny Groulx, Grabo. They had so many players step up that is was a very balanced attack.

As for this years group, I wouldn't mind if they all played together but Julien will want to win now so if he thinks players like Poehling will help him now then they will make the team or be called up at some point.
As me, as julien, im probably sure that you don’t deserve 15 games to tell if poehling is ready or not for competitionning against men. :p. This guy is more mature physically and older than anyone of our prospect. So this us a predicition that i make. Poehling will play his first game in montreal and not laval. I dont see him worst than thompson. And hes a first pick..

But is playing 4th line best for his development? I don't see him beating Tatar, Drouin, Gallagher, Armia, Lehkonen, KK, Domi, Danault or Byron. Playing lots of minutes (including PP) with real (AHL level) offensive threat might be better for him than playing with Weal and Cousins and maybe getting some PK.

I don't think Julien will look at it as what's best for Poehling, so I could certainly see him as our 4th line center.

When is the last time a coach cared about whats best for his players instead of his job?

That's where the GM is suppoesed to step in and do what's best for the player's long term development. Supposed to.

The two aren't mutually exclusive if you have an owner/president who knows how to properly assess the job a GM is doing. If a GM crushes his young players and doesn't develop them properly, he's not doing his job.

Mete and Kk made the team when they did because they were ahead of all the other (crappy) options. In Mete's case I think he would definitely have benefited from more time in Laval. It's more complicated in KK's caese. If he struggles again this year, like he did in the last 1/3 of last year, I'd like to see him get time in Laval. I think Poehling's ready. I don't think it's the end of the world if he starts out at 4c, but I don't want him there the whole season.

Basically, what happens with Poehling and Suzuki this year will say a lot about what MB is doing

is there Fan who are more hype on Suzuki than Poehling ? I'm interested to know what our fans think

Poehling IMO is a power center who is amazing in his own end and drive plays
Suzuki is more of a highly cerebral playmaking winger who slows the game down when he is on the ice.

I really hope he starts the season in Laval and get a few games here and there in the NHL.

They better not rush yet another prospect.

Some people here think that the AHL is of no benefit to a young player. On the job training in the NHL is better. I agree with you, however.

I don’t mind the idea of Poehling, Suzuki, and Brook all growing together in Laval.

Next year we are going to see a huge influx of prospects though.

So Poehling is No.1 on our HFBoard prospect list.

How is he a better prospect than Kotkaniemi?

Every player is different. Some have no problem starting in the show, developing, moving up the depth chart and having solid careers. Other hyped prospects start in the AHL and never develop to perceived potential.
Or vice versa.
Not everyone fits into a nice little box that good for all.

If he earns it you gotta start him in the NHL and adjust as it plays out. It is the right message to send to players. Earn it, you get a shot. Earn your way and stay. If not you go down

I also think that no matter who the player, it would be a fine start to a pro career to get experience without the pressure of being under a microscope. It has been a great development league that has certainly sent some fine players to the NHL, I believe in it. Tomas Plekanec spent nearly 4 years there and went on to have a good career, just one example.

Suzuki Imo has a higher ceiling, but poehling is more polished for the NHL game, and more of a sure thing.

I rank poehling ahead of Suzuki.

So Poehling is No.1 on our HFBoard prospect list.

How is he a better prospect than Kotkaniemi?

Because KK already has a full season under his belt, so he's considered graduated by conventional wisdom.

I still look at him as a prospect though, because I see alot of raw aspects to him that are still developing. He's not close to being a finished player, and playing a full season doesn't move the needle much, beause I think his biggest leaps occur when he begins to mature physically.

Id have him as the top prospect in the system if we are still considering him one.
