sidelined with a concussion, according to Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters.
Murphy left Saturday night’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers in the second period, after he was boarded by Ryan White. It was a heavy and penalized check, and though Murphy would play a shift afterwards, he then left and did not return with what was ruled an upper-body injury.

Peters said after the game that he believed it to be a shoulder injury but confirmed today that it was indeed a concussion.

“He’ll go through the protocol starting tomorrow, and we’ll just take it day-by-day,†he said.

The Hurricanes have six healthy defensemen on their roster, with Michal Jordan having sat out as a healthy extra in the team’s last two games.

“We’re banged up in our organization the back-end,†Peters said. “We’re not going to call anybody up until we need to. We’ve got six capable bodies, and we€™ll play them.â€

Must be something in the water in kitchener that makes people prone to concussions.

Or it could be the fact that they're both sub 6 feet guys that like to skate the puck into and out of trouble. That tends to create problems for even the best of them. Looking at that kid from Pittsburgh as well. But if you take that out of their game, you take away a portion of their effectiveness. See also that kid and Skinner alike.

I believe this is Murphy's 3rd concussion now, correct? Didn't he get a severe one with Kitchener skating behind the net when the guy launched into him.....and now this is his 2nd with the Canes?

It's nice that Slavin is playing solidly enough that they can put Murphy down for a stint to get his game back together after injury. It's good for Slavin to get a little time up here before sending him back down (presumably) and not having to rush Murphy back too soon.
