Team Russia 2011 WJC Roster. Here is my prediction:

Kitsyn* - Sobchenko - Tarasenko*
Dvurechensky - Voronin - Kuznetsov*
Galiev - Golubev - Avtsin
Burdasov - Telegin* - Bocharov
Kalinin

Pivtsakin* - Orlov*
Urychev - Berezin
Zaitsev* - Arzamatsev
An. Sergeev

Bobkov*
Garipov

* = played in 2010 WJC

I would love to see the likes of Yakupov, Khokhlachev, and Namestnikov on the team but I just think there are a lot of quality 91's available and Russia will suit an older squad. I'll be pleasantly surprised if Yakupov does make it. I included Avtsin, as I hope he will be released by Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL to play in this tourney, his last chance to do so.

Total - 91's - 18, 92's - 4

Looking forward to hearing some input from fellow fans.

Pretty good list, very close to what the team will be. I agree that Garipov and Bobkov should be the goaltending tandem, Shikin is just inconsistent and Garipov seems like a strong number two, even though he plays an awkward style at times, he makes saves.

What I liked about team Russian at the SSS is the grittiness. I am more than sure that the team at the WJC will not be able to match it, but definitely will have more skill.

Here is one unpopular suggestion - bring Kabanov for a tryout, the dude is at his lowest point now, so he will work extremely hard on that team.

I can't see Kabanov being associated with any Russian national teams for a while after all the on and off-ice problems in the past and saying things like "I will stay in North America forever" and "I might change my citizenship". He has a lot of issues, but has a ton of talent. It's a shame really...Nonetheless Russia still has loads of talent, I can't wait to see what kind of team they put together!

I think Kalinin will be in 2nd line according this

Раньше в этом звене играл Владимир Тарасенко. На чемпионате мира кто займёт эту позицию?
Тарасенко. Калинин сыграет в другом звене.

I would consider Panarin. He is leader in points among players born in 90´s in this season of KHL. And he players for Vityaz, weak team... look but I am not a coach :D

I see Kalinin being Russia's role player, the guy that can play on any line, which is why I picked him the 13th forward. I imagine he could be playing on all lines. I had Panarin in my list to choose from, just hard to cut down to 13, I would swap him for Avtsin if he isn't chosen/released.

Tarasenko's got 6g and 6a in 28 games this year so far.

I just think some others players have earned the spot over Zdunov.

RussianHockey96 thx for reply.
Tarasenko is 3rd in points among players born in 90´s, leader Panarin and Chudinov have one more point than Tarasenko. Tarasenko mostly plays 3rd line with Zavarukhin and Enlund, he plays also power plays.

No prob. Actually it looks like Kuznetsov and Tarasenko are leading the KHL in points for players eligible in this tournament. They each have 12 and Panarin has 11.

Yes, you are right. Both have earned two points this week. Article is from last week :)

I'd move Kuznetsov to center.

Tarasenko - Kuznetsov - Avtsin
Kitsyn - Sobchenko - Kalinin
Panarin - Golubev - Burdasov
Bocharov - Voronin - Dvurechensky

Orlov - Arzamastsev
Zaitsev - Pivtsakin
Berezin - Urychev
Berdyukov - Sergeev

Bobkov
Shikin

Its too bad it looks like Russia's not really considering Ramis Sadikov, he wasn't on the Super Series roster and its a shame since he's playing really well this year. Also by the time the tournament comes he would probably have played the most games amongst the considered goaltenders, Bobkov included.

I think that Russia wants to give a chance to one of their other 91's to play in the tournament as Sadikov got to play in it last year.

I would have totally agreed, but the game where he was pulled in the subway series gave me some concern...I know every goaly is entitled to a game like that but still....also that incident witht the stick waving in NA....Why not Sadikov? I don't get it...

I am Canadian and I think, regretably, the US will be favoured to win. I, however, think Russia will beat the US in the finals to win their first WJR's in 8 years.

And I will be there cheering them on.

GO CANADA GO!!!
