Yet the lack of offense, all around, is why the Flyers will seek to replace Fedotenko this summer with a player who can deliver more goals.

“I never thought we would not be in the playoffs,†Fedotenko said. “And I feel like I don’t know. I feel a lot of people feel the same way. No one thought we would be out and not fighting for playoffs.

“Whatever word you can use, I feel it is pretty shocking looking back. It’s not the season anyone expected.â€

His agent, Allan Walsh, wanted him to sign with the Flyers last July.

“He liked it and he knew what I was looking for,†Fedotenko said. “He thought it was a good opportunity for me.

“Then again, nobody thought we would be in this situation right now. It is what it is. No one to blame but ourselves for not playing the way we needed to. There was no consistency to our game.â€

There is no truth to rumors that Ruslan Fedotenko has signed a deal with a team in the KHL. People expressing interest is not a contract.

May 1:
Yesterday, there were several reports in the Russian media that Ruslan Fedotenko has signed a three-year deal with Ukraine-based KHL team Donbass Donetsk. The Ukrainian forward played for Donbass during the NHL lockout, centering the club's top line.

Fedotenko's NHL agent, Allan Walsh, tweeted a denial of the reports later in the day: "There is no truth to rumors that Ruslan Fedotenko has signed a deal with a team in the KHL. People expressing interest is not a contract."

The impending unrestricted free agent, who has evolved into a defensive specialist the last two years with the Rangers and Flyers, recently expressed unhappiness with that role. Returning to Donbass would make sense in that regard, because he averaged 18:40 of ice time and played in all game situations.

Is it just me or does every time Fedotenko get interviewed it ends up being something angsty and subtly dramatic?

I have no issues with anything he said in this interview. Rusty is a heart and soul kind of player and he had a great year for us. I wish him the best going forward, and by going forward I mean to the western conference or the KHL. The man is an absolute Flyer killer.

See ya Rusty. Thanks for ruining the Flyers best chance at a Cup in the last 25 years.

I think the 2004 team was better overall. They just had a crazy amount of injuries and then Fedotenko finished them off.

I would have to disagree that 2010 was pretty loaded looking back now. It's sucks the Flyers had two really good shots to win the Cup in 2000 and 2004 but just couldn't close it out.

I liked Feds. Don't understand his unhappiness with his role on this team though. Surprised he didn't just sign somewhere else in the NHL.

Maybe he got paid and he expects to get a larger role in the KHL.

I mean, he really doesn't have any reason to stay in the NHL. Already won 2 cups and nobody is going to unload the bank for him here.
