It was Schenn, Simmonds and a 2nd for Richards and Bordson. Where is this great d?

Schenn+Simmonds+1st for Richards+Carter**

Richards+Carter were valued around the league. Simmonds was really unknown at the time. It was Schenn that was the main piece from the LA

What they would do is give us additional resources to get a higher end Dman. If we are offering player A, lets just grab a name, Eberle or even our 1st rounder next year and that is not enough you actually have some solid prospect resources to add to any deals to close the deal.

How often do you hear the old, a roster player, 1st rounder and prospects tossed around by the experts? We have zero prospects to offer up in most of these deals.
This is an arguement i understand. Saying those two prospects alone could get us a good d though is silly.

Carter went to CBJ for Vorachek and the Cotourier pick. Jack Johnson plus a pick went for Carter.

To further the side bar- That trade was only made so the Oilers could get back their own 3rd rounder so they could offer sheet Penner shortly after.

And an even BIGGER side note, Penner then got traded to LA who turned into Oscar Klefbom. So.....Hamonic = Klefbom?

Agreed, unless you are gambling with a UFA at the deadline, say a guy like Yandle or something but without assurances of resigning that would be a terrible move.

Your getting basically 2 #1 centers for a #1 d-man if your adding to that it's not worth it. This is coming from someone who absolutely loves Faulk but still.

yeah drai + 5th overall would be an overpay IMO... but i'm not that big of a faulk fan to be honest

it doesn't matter though, carolina isn't trading faulk

The Ducks picked Teubert in the 1st and Justin Schultz in the 2nd with those offer sheet picks too. Something very strange in a Kevin Bacon way is going on here.

Edit: Was actually Tyler Myers who was the Oilers 1st that went in the Penner offer sheet. So they traded a pick that was used on Hamonic to be able to offer sheet Penner, and the picks ended up being Myers, Schultz, and a 3rd round bust. Then Penner returned Klefbom, Teubert, and Zharkov. Way to run this team into the sewer Lowe.:sarcasm:

Agreed, if some team wants to make a huge deal with actual players fine but forget prospects and picks.

I'm not so sure.

It really depends on what information the gm has.

Suppose you know shattenkirk wants to go to FA and that Trouba an Hamonic is a done deal.

Suppose you think a team wants an impact player for a playoff run/wants to make a big splash.

You might actually get roster players for next season depending on the player.

I also think the best FA'S are mostly wingers and a lot of the core guys are wingers....and a lot of the struggling players are wingers...

You could maybe trade a big player for good futures and a young roster player and have more assets to move at the draft. Then replace the player in July.

It was Myers, but clearly they liked Teubert and probably would have picked him over Myers since they were both on the board.

We know the Coyotes probably wouldn't trade OEL, but would anyone consider something like 1st overall for Hanzal and Duclair?

Then Eberle, Reinhart, 2017 1st for Burns. RNH for Pacioretty.

Hall Drai UFA
Pacioretty McDavid Duclair
Pouliot Hanzal Kassian

Klefbom Burns
Davidson/Nurse Sekera
Davidson/Nurse Gryba

It ended up being Schenn, Simmonds, Severson for Richards and a bust
