is Broberg going to be ready, ever?
He's in an organization that largely failed or had bad luck with the critical defense position. The Oilers had to acquire three veteran left shot d-men via trade and free agency the past three years to cover off a massive organizational deficiency to chase playoff success. Losing Klefbom, adding Keith, Kulak, then last season Ekholm pushed down the roster space and opportunity space to onboard a rookie defenseman. It's the right move to shore up a positional weakness on a team with elite forward group in prime years. But they severely botched the development needs of their pedigree prospect guy in Broberg.

Pushing a neophyte prospect to off-shooting side proved to be disastrous with unrealistic expectation. Then choking his NHL minutes and ice-time eroded confidence and choked off important development through playing.

Broberg's finally playing consistent 25-30 minutes all situation play and thriving in the AHL. He's NHL ready whether moving into a 3LD cost control role next year on this team or moving out as a trade asset to address other roster needs.

Hanifin signed. Marchessault and Stephenson could be good targets

So assuming a cap of 87.7M next year, Vegas now has about 6.6M in room remaining with Marchessault, Martinez, Stephenson, Carrier, Amadio and Mantha as UFA.

Maybe they bring back Marchessault and the others walk.

Not so fast.

Why do that when you can simply announce a player is out for the year in October and just have them come back when the playoffs start?

Would definitely offload Kulak this summer and let Broberg take the bottom pair.

They are 110% going to do that next year, and I don't blame them either. It's the NHL's fault for having zero balls to enforce cap circumvention.
They would have the balls quick enough if Edmonton tried this crap. The NHL would have their vision of OJ Simpson dream team of lawyer ripping Edmonton apart.Calgary would get Edmonton next 5 first round picks because some how it effect that in a negative way.

This is going to age like milk, love it.

Even if the Golden Knights bow out early, all the bells and whistles enveloped by fan backlash over cap circumvention, Vegas will be loaded up again for next season with new elite talent, ready to cheat again.

Imagine the mausoleum that T-Mobile Arena would be if the NHL wasn't crooked. The revenue sharing scam would take a massive hit. Board of Governors might even oust Gary.

I feel like anyone that was on that Flames team 2 years ago is just owned forever by the Oilers. They wrecked that whole organization and I bet it will haunt them for a long time.

Hanafin wanted to run away to Tampa Bay, get as far away as possible like Tkachuk.

I’ll enjoy getting back at Kadri (former Av) for the remainder of that horrible contract.

Anyway, f*** the Flames

It’s the NHLs fault but I still blame scumbags for exploiting loopholes and finding any way to cheat that they can. Just because something is technically legal doesn’t mean it’s respectable.

Another very good defenseman, that recently took apart the Oil, while he was still with Calgary, added to a team that already has many other very good defenseman.

Vegas also picked up another really good piece in Hertl. If one or both don't work out they'll rid themselves of those contracts with the greatest of ease.

For the record, you're on record saying the Hanafin contract at 7.35M is a disaster.

Go ahead and stick your head in the sand. I hope that's where the cat pooped.
