Just heard on TSN 1050 that there is a 'rumour' floating around of Phaneuf to the Oilers for Gagner and the #3 pick.

What are peoples thoughts on this ? There was no talk that Toronto would have to give up their #8 pick.

If you have Boyle lined up to come and replace Dion, I think you have to seriously consider this. Gagner replaces Bolland. Hell, maybe you can then swing a package with the 8th pick to jump up to #1 and come away with Ekblad and one of the Sams. Huge wishful thinking, but that is why this time of year is so fun.

That's a million times better than the supposed Gardiner/Kadri deals floating around. I do this without hesitation. Would even add some if necessary.

Makes sense for EDM to take Phaneuf and dump Gagner, but I'd think they'd want more to flip the third. If Nonis can hold on to that pick and the eighth overall he's a genius.

Even though I still a fan of Phaneuf, I'd do this trade easily. Our defense will be terrible next year, but having a draft that includes Draisaitl and Ehlers would be amazing.

If no salary is retained, I'd do this deal in a heartbeat.
With or without Boyle's interest in us.

Toronto already has a weak center like Gagner in Kadri, don't see Nonis trading his best defenseman for another one of those.

TSN scouts compared him to a smaller Joe Thornton.
If we have a top 3, you gotta think we're going Reinhart, Bennet, or Ekblad.

Sometimes to trade warts, you have to take on warts. Gagner is salary ballast in this hypothetical deal and the value is the 3rd overall pick.
