For those mentioning that there would need to be a Leddy replacement for the draft eligibility requirement, it is possible for a trade (or two) to include a lesser defensemen who satisfies that requirement.

If we trade him to Detroit Troy Strecher(1.7M RHD) fulfills expansion requirements

Personallly if we could I would send Leddy for free if Detroit accepted one of Hickey or Komarov as well.

Soooo, Minny bought out Parise and Suter...
If Leddy could be moved, there is a cheaper option, and I guess Parise is almost certainly coming in....should be an interesting week.

If anyone places bets one of those very detailed sportsbooks, would love to see one of those props about "Parise's NHL team in 2021." I'd have to imagine the Isles are like 2-1 and the next closest team would be like 10-1.

That’s not even that much of a pipe dream, very much within the realm of possibility especially if we’re just re-signing Palmieri instead of trading for Tarasenko. But even that is possible too.

I think the least likely part of this is Suter, but let’s see how close he still is with Parise.

I love dreaming. It's what these boards are for. In theory that lineup could happen, but my guess is that adds at least 30M to the payroll:

  • Tarasenko 7.5M/Palmieri 5M
  • Parise 2-3M (probably bonuses included)
  • Suter 3-4M
  • Pelech 6M
  • Beauvillier 4-5M
  • Sorokin 3M
  • Cizikas 2.5-3.5 (the lesses the AAV the longer the deal)
  • Greene 750K (with more bonuses)

We currently have about 11M in cap space (with Boychuk on LTIR as of October). If you trade Eberle (or he goes to Seattle) you're up to 16.5.

So you've got to add probably 13M in cap space minimum and that means getting rid of all 3 of Ladd/Komarov/Hickey which would add 11.5M in cap space. That ain't happening without multiple high picks going out the door.

So end of day that roster can happen, but you're probably looking at losing a 1st and/or multiple 2nds/3rds and probably a young player/prospect to make it happen.

See above, but totally agree with the bolded.

Sidetracking a bit, but how can you quote a post from a previous/locked thread so you can reply in the new thread?

Tap the multi-quote option in the locked thread, then leave the thread and go to the new one. Insert the quotes and you should be good to go.

But the "multi-quote" option disappears once a thread is locked.

Ah, it must not for me because I can still post in those threads. Maybe someone else knows if it's possible but an alternative could be to just copy the text, place it in quote brackets, and then @ the user so they see it. If I find or think of another way I'll let you know.

I could see Parise taking a sweetheart deal with Lou. He’s getting paid already with the buyout, if he wants to go to a contender he may have to take one

Totally agree. I was trying to play "worst case scenario" with the AAV of all those players, but even if Parise takes league minimum with some modest bonuses (ala Greene this past year), you're sill talking about freeing up about 10M in case space. That is going to be near impossible without some real pain for our future assets.

Saw the stuff on the main board that the Parise-Suter combo was bad for the team culture in Minny and that is one of the main reasons for the buyouts of both instead of just one or the other. Something about them creating a "country club" culture as the veteran presences on the team.

Maybe we should steer away from the package deal of both of them? Or the culture we already have in place with Lou - Barry - the core could set them straight?

Sadly, this is well documented and nothing new concerning the negative team culture with Suter, Parise.

neither of them would be signed to help change the culture- we have an excellent locker room.
they will come here with one intention- stanley cup.

not at all concerned about culture

In the 31 Thoughts podcast (I do enjoy Friedman), he has some direct/indirect Isles thoughts:

  • Said most NHL people would be surprised if Suter went to any Canadien team (because he's American, played for team USA, etc). "A lot of people think Vegas. A lot of people think Colorado. I've had a few people tell me Washington."
  • "Everyone thinks Parise is going to the Islanders."
  • He then mentions how someone brought up how Suter played for Trotz in Nashville so couldn't he/Parise be a package deal to the Islanders....But instead of addressing that he just repeats that people would be surprised if Suter wound up in Canada.
  • Confirms reports that Leddy is on the block to avoid being taken in the expansion draft, but says those types of deals are tough to pull off because, "who's going to be able to trade for Nick Leddy and be able to protect him?"
  • Inferred that STL is letting teams view Tarasenko's medical records (unlike Buffalo with Eichel who are requiring teams to make a legit/serious offer first).

24 hours ago I was thinking "Let's see how it goes but we may have to take a step back next season and roll the dice."

Today's update: "Full steam ahead. If Lou plays his cards right we may have a parade on the Island next year."

You don't need to see Eichel's medical records to know its a bunch of BS to couch his 'i want a trade, but don't want to ask for it, so this your doctor vs my doctor thing will suffice.'
