I've always thought this would be a good idea but the league should allow teams to substitute 1 player during a game. This would be perfect for when a guy gets injured during a game

I'll agree. Maybe if it's only for a DMan. Going with just 5 Dmen in case of injury punishes a team.
Maybe make the rule like the 3rd QB in the NFL.

why not go with the full 23 man roster all the time then?

International games use a 22 man roster. One good thing about the 22 man roster is if your team isn't clicking, you can change things up a bit using that 13th forward or 7th defenseman more. It's also perfect for injuries

Nah. Injuries are part of the sport. Teams need to deal with it.

Bad luck injured will always happen, but there is also components of players not putting themselves in spots and plays to get injured (while still being effective), ad quality of the training staff.

To the OP: so this would be on top of always having an emergency 3rd goalie in the rink at all times in case the 2 goalies dressed get injured?

Yes, my main reason for it is injury replacement. I wouldn't want it to be things aren't clicking in the first 2 periods and I am down so I will bring in a better offensive player instead of a more defensive one

I like it.

Adds more NHL jobs which the PA would like. Gives coaches more flexibility. Allows for players who may be scratched for extended periods of time to be inserted into a game if the game is out of hand (i.e. Team A is losing 5-0 to start the third. Coach can sit one of his stars to get a head start on some rest and insert a scratch to get some minutes in). This would also get some of the fringe players more games played which I believe helps towards their pension.

It wouldn't create more jobs,it would just mean that one guy who has been eating popcorn in the pressbox for 2 hours will get to come in cold and skate for 3 minutes during garbage time. Also, people are kidding themselves if they don't realize it would just turn into a young offensive player has a turnover then the coach sends him to the pressbox in favour of some "safe" vet player

I wouldn't mind it if it was solely for the purpose of replacing an injured player who cannot return to the game. Gives less incentive for goon teams like LA to intentionally headshot/knee opposing team's players.

Would be hilarious but I would rather have a coach use the extra roster spot on a pp specialist.

Tbh the only guy using it on a fighter would be Burke but it would be fun when babcock pulls out cleary or the pens bring down a drunk Mario from the press box
