From what the Flyers History site states, the team has never had the 80th pick in the draft. They have had picks 81 through 89. Making history. :sarcasm:

Kirill Ustimenko - Goaltender - Dynamo St. Petersburg (MHL)

Ustimenko made a statement at this year’s U18s, getting a surprise start for Russia in the bronze medal game and delivering a 30-save shutout. Has the ideal combination of size and mobility in net, and complements that with impressive composure and advanced rebound control. Posted a .938 save percentage this season in Russia’s top junior league.

What they're saying: "But don't sleep on Kirill Ustimenko, who played on the Russian team at the U-18 in Slovakia. He seems to be an unknown to many and has been a little hidden all season." - Jeff Marek, sportsnet.ca

MHL is a low scoring league but he led the league in SV% (.938) as a 17 year old.

What's this, the 4th goalie off the board. Did I miss anyone?

Not a huge fan of this pick, but I can live with it. He has good numbers. Played for Russian U18 team. He has apparently also Belarusian citizenship.

Hextall had to be really impressed with Ustimenko's recent performances that he took him in the 3rd round.

I watched him at the u18s 1 game, but I didn't pay attention to him. Don't really know much about scouting goalies either tbh. But Flyers must think they have a gem. Ken Hoodikoff is excellent, and he was obviously a big target.

All the profile stuff you look for is there. At that point, you just trust the process.

Honestly, i have such low expectations for this draft after our first 3 picks that I dont care who else we take.

With that said, it at least looks like this is a goalie worth picking, despite me not thinking we need more goalies in the system. However, you never want to miss out on the next Vezina winner just because youve got a lot of other potential starters

It's called a bluff.

Hextall said this week he could not see the club taking another goalie in the early rounds but he did
