Whenever I see a team Italy thread, I automatically think to myself, "I wish Gabrielle Ravani was real and playing for Italy". He's unreal in the NHL series.

Am I the only Italian or Italian fan on this?

Well im big fan of Pizza and other Italian food in general atleast... :P Just kidding. But I do find this team somehow easy to root for.. My favourites from "underdogs" if you will are Italians. They are very big country in every other aspect but hockey, and I would like to see them being good in hockey.

Looking forward to seeing Thomas Larkin play, he's probably going to be the only Italian-trained player with even a slight chance of reaching the NHL for a long time.

Wait is Sbisa (Anaheim Ducks) not on the roster?

Sbisa plays for the Swiss.

You don't seriously believe they play hockey on Sardinia, do you? :sarcasm:

Ohhh, it says he's from Italy so I just figured. Oh well.

Noticed an interesting stat while looking at Eliteprospects, the five shortest players at this years World Championships all play for Italy.

Edit: Though it does seem like Italy need to cut about 8 players from the roster listed on EP before the tournament starts.

I recently moved to Milan and started going to Rossoblu games so I'm amazed to see that two of the guys on that team are playing for the national team. Go Lutz and Ansoldi!

Wait is Sbisa (Anaheim Ducks) not on the roster?

I'm always torn on the subject of Sbisa. On the one hand my mom is Sardinian so I should probably root for him. On the other hand, I'm a San Jose boy through and through and the thought of rooting for a Duck makes me sick.

The final roster

Thomas Tragust (WSV Sterzing Vipiteno/SHC Fassa)
Andreas Bernard (Saipa-FIN/SC Auer Ora)
Daniel Bellissimo (Bofors IK-SWE)

Goalie Bellissimo is the most improvided player in the last 20 years of Italian hockey, he came from the NCAA to Italy as undraftet and he will play next season in the Eliteserie in Sweden.

Trevor Johnson (HC Valpellice)
Stefano Marchetti (HC Asiago)
Matthew DeMarchi (Vik Västerås HK-SWE)
Roland Hofer (Peliitat Heinola-FIN/HC Freinfeld)
Nicholas Plastino (Bofors IK-SWE)
Thomas Larkin (Colgate University – U.S.A.)
Christian Borgatello (HC Bolzano)
Armin Helfer (HC Val Pusteria)

Johnson and De Marchi are unqualified to play at a WC, no idea why they are still on the roster.

Robert Sirianni (HC Valpellice)
Diego Iori (SHC Fassa)
Thomas Pichler (Renon Sport Hockey)
Patrick Iannone (Ice Hockey Aquile FVG)
Luca Felicetti (SG Cortina)
Vincent Rocco, Nicola Fontanive, Manuel DeToni (Alleghe Hockey)
Luca Ansoldi (Hockey Milano Rossoblu)
Giulio Scandella (HC Val Pusteria)
Anton Bernard, Marco Insam, Alexander Egger, Derek Edwardson (HC Bolzano)

Dan Tudin, a Canadian guy who married an Italian girl, didn't received the Italian passport before the deadline, so Robert Sirianni remains the only player that is expected to score some goals for the team. Anton Bernard is one of the most improvided players in the last season, but no idea how he could manage to play at this level.

I always thought he had loads of potential but hasn't been able to get the best chance to use it yet.

Why is Diego Kostner not in the roster?

Born 1992, he is a very good player in an elite league....

I did never see Diego Kostner playing hockey, but I believe that the league where he currently plays shouldn't be the only one reason for selecting him. He could be one day a top NLA-player, but right now he's just a prospect of Lugano and that doesn't mean he is for sure better than another player with a long experience in the Italian league.

BTW: are you the backup goalie of Milano Rossoblu?
