Everyone should be against that... it’s among the worst things we could do this offseason.

You can waive Okposo, save a million in cap space, and deal with the other 5 million when we really need it and there are no other options left.

Giving up a 1st right now is absurd

Agreed. There are 3 teams still alive in the NHL playoffs that spent more than $6mil less than the Sabres did this year. Becoming a playoff team does not require clearing Okposo's cap space.

In the realm of "Things I'm hoping to never have to read about ever again after this summer"? Jacob Trouba as a trade target.

I agree that Trouba would likely not be worth on the ice what it would take to get him here and keep him here

In acap era you need to value p,Ayers based on output vs dollar spent.

Risto if used properly woukd be worth more that the $9M it would cost to sign Trouba.

Hard to guess what Trouba wants aside from not Winnipeg. He's reportedly turned down some large offers from the Jets, but if he doesn't wanna be there, it's not really gonna matter to him what kind of term/AAV they're throwing out.

Why would Buffalo be more attractive to Trouba than Winnipeg?

My guess is that Buffalo would have a lot of the same issues with getting Trouba signed to a reasonable long term contract as the Jets have. It would just be slightly different reasons.

Closer to his family, he wants to live in the USA.

There are a ton of teams in the US. I highly doubt just the fact that the Sabres are in the US will make it so much easier to sign him to a deal that isn't an anchor.
I answered your question than Buffalo more attractive Winnipeg for Trouba, Buffalo is relatively not far from Detroit, also think not in all teams the USA he wants expand, apparently for this guy distance is important, at least rumored to.

We need more quality forwards than d men so no thx to Trouba.
We can't afford to pay more than one d man that kind of money and it will be Dahlin.

The same idea has been applied to Skinner and he hasn't signed yet.

I have doubts that location would override the issues of the lack of on ice success that the Sabres are dealing with in regards to making it easier to sign a player like Trouba to a long term extension.

I don't believe location will be a big enough reason to get a player like Trouba (or Skinner) to sign a long term team friendly deal.

Re: Trouba

As others have said, he has rumored to want to move to the US. He did just get engaged (per his Wikipedia page)

I imagine that any trade with WPG and Trouba would involve bringing back some excess salary. All that being said, you don't trade for him unless you are 100% certain he's signing long term. And since he's a RFA, you don't even need the teams permission to speak with him. With Myers potentially leaving WPG as well, assume some interest in a RHD going back.

Risto ++

for

Trouba + salary dump.

Huh? The cap is over 80M.

You can pay for 2-3 premium d-men. You simply can't have a 5M d-man on your 3rd pair if you are paying your top 3 d-men 25M.

A team can't afford to pay just north of $5M a year for multiple guys who have to be shielded from actually playing defense. Buffalo has two. Sadly, one is going to get to stick around because he's having surgery... again.

Only 1 year left on Bogo's contract, though. We're almost free!

A lot of good here, but lol, you really expect the guy that traded away Ryan O’Reilly to get value on trades?
