The Canucks are in a good position for the 2021-22 season. Vasili Podkolzin is a lock for a top-6 winger spot, as many feel that he's NHL-ready right now. Also, the prospect cupboard is deep enough that the eventual departure of Tanner Pearson should be filled from within the farm system. The only real wildcard is the looming expansion draft, and whether the Canucks re-sign Chris Tanev or go w/ a free agent:

JT Miller-Elias Pettersson-Brock Boeser
**Tyler Madden/Nils Hoglander/Aidan Mcdonough/Kole Lind**-Bo Horvat-Vasili Podkolzin
Antoine Roussel-Adam Gaudette-Jake Virtanen
Micheal Ferland-Jay Beagle-William Lockwood
Zack MacEwen

Quinn Hughes-**Chris Tanev or UFA**
Olli Juolevi-Tyler Myers
Guillaume Brisebois/Jack Rathbone-Nikita Tryamkin/Brogan Rafferty
Ashton Sautner-Jalen Chatfield

Jacob Markstrom or Thatcher Demko
Michael Dipietro

Really curious of who'll play LW on the Horvat line, but I feel the prospects listed have the best chance. Also, I'd feel a lot more confident in the D group if the Canucks could someway sign Alex Pietrangelo this summer. Haha

2021/22 is going to be the final year before Radulov, Pavelski, and Klingberg are all UFAs after this season. Could be a big sell off or one last go for it year. Also look for Hintz and Gurianov to get 2 year contracts this offseason at lower hits so Dallas can kid up. Hoping whoever we trade Faksa/Dellandra for is Heiskanen’s partner.

Johns hasn’t played over a season and a half, but sounds like he’s going to the AHL for a conditioning stint this month so it’s looking good that he may return.

Obviously LA will win the draft lottery, as we are always lucky all the time.

I didnt want to mention Pietrangelo as he is a top player and will be UFA so let that one go but Robertson as a top liner...stretch much!?

could be but the kid is looking like an absolute steal like sandin before him..and that kid made the team outta camp as a 19 year old DMAN. He will be back in late January btw

Would love to have Wallmark over Staal at this point but he wont go anywhere.

pretty wishful thinking with the season he is having. Carolina would have to trade a decent asset to get their attention away from Bean imho

Now that the WJC is over I figured it would be fun to speculate on what NHL teams would look like in the future including all those shiny prospects. It would be fun to see what every GM has to work with and which team looks to be the best on paper 2 or 3 seasons from now.

You can list your line-up with players age and salary. You can include all your top prospects and if you would like to go crazy with trades and free agent signings, go ahead. This is all speculation and in good fun. Don't forget the Seattle draft will be the summer prior (summer 2021) so you should delete one player that was taken in the expansion draft.

Don't forget to look up who's UFA and RFA, and include only the players you want to re-sign.

Personally I'm just gonna make a line-up with what my team has right now, adding only one new player (a top-5 pick from the 2020 draft in Drysdale).

This is for the start of the 2021-22 season (October 2021)

MONTREAL CANADIENS 2021-22
Max Domi, 26 (6,7M) - Jesperi Kotkaniemi, 21 (3,5M) - Cole Caufield, 20 (0,9M)
Jonathan Drouin, 26 (5,5M) - Nick Suzuki, 22 (0,863M) - Brendan Gallagher, 29 (6,2M)
Ryan Poehling, 22 (1,3M) - Phillip Danault, 28 (4,6M) - Artturi Lehkonen, 26 (2,8M)
Lukas Vejdemo, 25 (1,0M) - Jake Evans, 25 (1,0M) - Jesse Ylonen, 22 (0,85M)
Alex Belzile, 30 (0,8M)

Alexander Romanov, 21 (0,9M) - Shea Weber, 36 (7,86M)
Victor Mete, 23 (3,0M) - Jamie Drysdale, 19 (0,9M)
Mattias Norlinder, 21 (0,9M) - Cale Fleury, 23 (2,0M)
Josh Brook, 22 (0,795M), Otto Leskinen, 24 (0,9M)

Carey Price, 34 (10,5M) - Cayden Primeau, 22 (0,88M)

TOTAL CAP HIT: $69,500,000
claimed by Seattle: Armia
bought out: Alzner
traded: Byron, Chiarot, Petry, Tatar
buried: Kulak
2020 draft: Drysdale

I understand he is having a great season played a decent WJC but to have him as a top liner is a huge reach.

There is an undrafted player and a 3rd round pick from the same draft year who are having much better seasons than him. We cant say they are steals or going to be studs.

All im saying is its good that you are high on him as a prospect but you may be setting yourself up for disappoinment if he only turns out to be a bottom 6 forward who wont make the NHL for another 3-4 years.

bean is one of the most consistent defenders in Charlotte this season. It seems the organization is very high on him. He can be protected. Hamilton is UFA during the expansion draft so the Canes could protect Bean, Slavin, and Pesce. Sure if Hamilton signs an extension this off-season then it opens the Canes up to have issues . We are probably going to have to persuade Seattle to take Gardiner anyways so Bean will be safe.

The canes could even go 4-4-1 again protecting Svech, Aho, Turbo, and Staal while protecting the top 3 defenders and Bean. Foegele, Nino, and Gauthier would be exposed at a minimum (in addition to any long term signings this offseason). Again, if the goal is to offload Gardiner it won’t matter who is exposed.

Good point and most likely Bergevin will try to retain a veteran like Chiarot. But as a rebuilding team you gotta hope at least two of Mete, Fleury, Brook, Norlinder, Harris, Leskinen and Romanov can play in the top-4 within 2-3 years otherwise the team is screwed. Weber and Price will be getting older so you need some fresh blood. Unless you sign Pietrangelo, or Petry stays, there is no one else that can play top-4 really.

At least Mete is already playing a top-4 role and Fleury is trending well. Romanov should also be able to play top-4 if all goes well after a year in Laval. And of course, if we get Drysdale, he's got a shot at a top-4 spot within 2 seasons for sure.

But it's all fun and games, of course!

Tender protected Fulcher.

I won't include future picks but obviously they will vastly alter this lineup, given that we are the Sens lol

B. Tkachuk - L. Brown - Duclair
Balcers - White - Batherson
Formenton- J. Norris - C. Brown
Paul - Chlapik - Davidsson
B. Ryan/Sabourin

Chabot - Bernard-Docker
Brannstrom - Zaitsev
Wolanin - Jaros
Lajoie/Borowiecki

Hogberg
Daccord

IMO, the only actually optimistic slottings are Balcers, Brown and Batherson. Everyone else has essentially proven that they can play at that level, besides Formenton and Norris who IMO are basically locks to be top 9 fwds.

In the pipeline:
- Shane Pinto, C: ETA, 2021/2022. Upside, 1B/2A C.
- Abramov, LW: ETA 2021/2022. Upside, Top 6 Wing.
- Olle Alsing, LD: ETA 2021/2022. Upside, ???.
- J.C. Beaudin, C: ETA 2022. Upside, 4C/3W.
- Thomson, RD: ETA 2022. Upside, 3D.
- Angus Crookshank LW: ETA, 2022/2023. Upside, 2LW
- Verroneau, RW: ETA 2022/2023. Upside, 3RW/4RW PK.
- Gruden, LW: ETA 2023/2024. Upside, 3LW.
- Gustavsson, G: ETA ???. Upside ???.
- Mads Sogaard, G: ETA ???. Upside ???.
- Johnny Tychonick, ETA ???. Upside, 4/5D.

Traded:
- Pageau
- Tierney
- Namestnikov
- DeMelo
- Borowiecki (?)
- Hainsey
- Reilly
- Nilsson
- Ennis
- Anisimov

Unsigned:
- Boedker
- Anderson
- Callahan
- Gaborik
- MacArthur

Add in the fact that we may well have three top 10 picks over the next 2 years + 6 more in the 2nd round BEFORE accounting for trading the guys above, it is pretty clear that a) we're due for a prospect logjam and b) there will be a lot of changes to the roster, even including some of the guys listed as my 2021 roster. This team will have a ton of internal competition.

So in October 2021 I think a NJ lineup will potentially approach the following:

XXXX - HUGHES. - XXXX
Bratt - Hischier - Palmieri
Coleman - McLeod - ANDERSON
Talvite - XXXX - Bastian

XXXX - XXXX
Smith - Severson
Bahl - Subban

Bkackwood
XXXX

I expect Coleman and Palmieri to extend with NJ. I expect Wood Zacha and Butcher to be traded. I expect guys like Vats and Zajac to be moved for futures based on age. I think Gusev is moved at the deadline next season. As an aside if his improvement continues as he finds his stride he could be a prime trade deadline target next year. I have no idea who NJ will draft this year or next but I do expect lottery picks both years with the likelihood that the team is decent but not quite a playoff team next season. Whether they win a top 3 slot in either year could add a player and of course trades and injuries will happen.

Honestly with the way things are going in Nashville land, I wouldn't be shocked if the whole team was blown up by then - but for fun, I guess.

Forsberg - Duchene - Tolvanen
??? - Turris - Arvidsson
Trenin - Tomasino - ???
??? - Sissons - Pitlick

Josi - Ellis
??? - Fabbro
Carrier - ???

Saros
Rinne

???'s fill with UFAs, trades, blah blah blah. I think Johansen, Jarnkrok, Watson, and one of Ellis/Ekholm will be traded at some point. No one will take the Turris contract so we're stuck with him. Smith/Granlund/Bonino will leave in free agency.

Anaheim -

Lafrenier - Getzlaf - Silfverberg

Rakell - Stutzle/Lundell depending who we get on our pick if Lafrenier isnt coming - Sprong

Max Jones - Lundestrom - Kase

Deslauriers - Zegras - Rowney

Bench??
Sam Steel
Adam Henrique
Devin Shore

Defense -

Hampus Lindholm - Josh Manson if he isnt traded for first

Fowler - Gudbranson - If Fowler isnt traded for a first

Larsson - Del Zotto

I know Ducks have alot of open spots here. But half our roster could easily be reformed with how good these players are in the first round. I'm looking at you specifically Devils fans.

Braden Schneider at number 21 from the Coyotes is quite sexy. And is the best Right hand defenseman in the draft. We've done business together lets do it again. He will take our RHD spot on our roster.
