So far, this appears to be an excellent hire. Props to the Rockies. Sure, the young pitching coming up and doing so well has really helped but Black clearly deserves some credit for that.

As I said when SD fired him and WSH almost hired him, look at those Padres teams in his last few years, they always overachieved. In 2010, he pulled off a miracle to keep them in the race. The following years, they probably were 5-7 wins better than the 'on paper' analysis suggested.

Good for the Rockies. Their fans have suffered for a decade now of bad management and poor decisions (well except for 2009 I suppose).

I was not a big of the Bridich hire at all and thought they should have went outside the organization to run baseball ops but looks like he's done alright. Trading franchise icon Tulo was tough but it got them Hoffman who's looking like a real good pitcher.

I admit to being wrong because I saw his Padres work and he did pretty poorly there. But he has done a decent job with Rockies.
