Armia was again really good. He is REALLY engaged defensively all the time. He's really often the third man on defense when an opposing team starts their counter-attack. And his surprisingly good on penalty kill.

Armia has shown it very rarely, but he can be a force to be reckoned on the ice when he turns on his Dr. Jekyll&Hyde-switch. If he gets engaged in a game, he could be all over the ice and scoring important goals but, alas, the last time I've seen him to operate on that level was in the 2013 U20-game between Finland and Sweden.

He played that way in the SM-Liiga finals later that year, at least off the puck, as he didn't produce at a high level. He again looked like that in Rochester's first round exist last season.

Then you haven't seen him playing after U20 2013. He is so much more better player by now.

I guess not. I've seen only highlights from recent Amerks games but that doesn't ofc tell the entire story. I think that he has improved his skating and just consistency for showing up for games. He really doesn't have to hone his shot since it's, imo, the best out of '11 draft. Btw, is he being used on the point during PP because his one-timer is pretty good as well besides his wrist-shot?

Gotta love this article, from a guy who watches every single game…

"Enjoy his presence while you can, folks. Joel Armia surely won't be with the Rochester Americans all that much longer.

Silly-good puck skills, a deceptive release on a dynamic shot, very good skating, an awareness of defensive responsibilities, and a competitive drive to never give up on a play are the highlights to his game.

It's a well-rounded game that is now elite in the American Hockey League, and will fit quite nicely into the NHL.

It really looks like Armia has turned his game around, finally. I just wonder when they are going to give him a tryout since Grigorenko already has had his. Could be frustrating being kept down when he's showing his best not to belong there.

Jackals Prevail Against Reading In Overtime 3-2 - Elmira Jackals Official Website - JackalsHockey.com - Friday, November 21.

Allan McPherson scored 1:44 into overtime to propel the Jackals to a 3-2 victory against the East Division rival Reading Royals.

Sixty minutes was not enough the settle the score between these two East Division rivals. The Jackals were forced to kill off a four minute penalty at the end of regulation and into overtime before Allan McPherson netted the overtime game-winner. Seconds after the Jackals returned the full-strength McPherson carried the puck in the offensive zone on a 2-on-1 with Nesbitt and capitalized on his own rebound to give the Jackals a 3-2 win.

Travis Fullerton stopped 29 of 31 shots faced for the win and Ouellette stoped 20 of 23 shots faced but was handed the loss. The Jackals went 0-for-3 with the man advantage and the Royals went 1-for-8 on the power-play.

The Flames strike first and take a 1-0 lead as Ben Hanowski gets a bouncing puck past Makarov at the 7:56 mark of the 1st period.

Flames make it a 2-0 game as Bill Arnold tips in a shot by Brodie Reid for a power play goal midway through the 1st period

#Amerks nearly tie it up on a 2-on-1 rush by Varone and Irwin, but Thiessen just gets a toe on the shot by Irwin. Still a 2-1 Flames lead

@AmerksHockey

No shortage of chances on that power play, but Thiessen keeps it a 2-1 game. Just over 2 minutes to play in the 3rd

Makarov heads to the bench as the #Amerks get an extra attacker on the ice

Joel Armia hits the post, nearly tying the game in the final minute. Flames call a timeout

So close! Chad Ruhwedel with a golden opportunity in the final seconds, but Thiessen comes up with a huge save

It's a final in Glens Falls. The @AHLFlames hold on to defeat the #Amerks 2-1

Middle of nowhere
Wow I didn't realize this until just now but if the Jackals win this afternoon they aren't just tied for 1st in the Eastern Conference but for the whole ECHL. Since starting the season 1-2-1 the Jackals have eon 8 of 11 games(2 of those 3 losses have come via shootout)and the regulation loss came with a game winner scored with 21 seconds left. Currently 10 of 12 games at home. Had the one of two road games and lost in a shootout. Blew a 2-0 3rd period lead. Next road game is next Wednesday then 5 straight home games.

1st through 6th in the ECHL Eastern Conference is separated by a mere 3 points. Some game differentials though between teams.
