I think I'm ok with 2 years and a higher cap hit instead of 3+ years with a slightly lower hit. It shouldn't cost too much more money to extend him further after these 2 years if he looks like he will continue to be a good fit.
I mean I would have gambled on 3.5 AAV if it was something like 4-5 years but I doubt Fabbri wanted that so I’m good with this deal

This is easily like double the cap hit I thought he'd get, gives me a lot of concern about Bertuzzi and Mantha's upcoming deals

You thought he was only gonna get 1.5 mill? A lot of 4th liners get that or more. I was more thinking he would be 3.25-3.75 mill tbh

It is more about what he has done/ accomplished/ earned (same goes for 4th liners) - he has admittedly had a lot of bad luck with injuries so I don't mean to slight him there, but he hadn't exactly accomplished a ton before he got here. His first 2 seasons in the league he scored at a nice rate but big picture it was a cushy role on a stacked team.

Then 17/18, 18/19, and until he got here in 19/20 he did a whole lot of nothing, barely had a job on an NHL team (admittedly a Cup contender/ winner)

I'm obviously thrilled with what he did once he got here but it is a pretty small sample size, and I get it is only a 2 year term, but it just gives me shivers about Bertuzzi and Mantha now. Like if Fabbri is a $3M level guy, Bertuzzi is $5-6M? That is borderline Larkin numbers, and Mantha based on this should probably get like $8M+ with any sort of term, which scares the shit out of me

Nothing especially good or bad about this deal. It might be little higher than I had it pegged. But I might have pegged it a little low.
At worst, we get second half Fabbri (36 games 6-10-16, -17) or final 5th Fabbri (14 games 3-1-4 -8), and then have to live with it for another year. But that's easy enough to live with given what we've put up with in recent years.

Fabbri has some good chemistry with Bertuzzi.
I wouldn't mind plugging him in as 2C with Bertuzzi and Zadina and then seeing if we can pair someone with Larkin/Mantha.

Congratulations, HF Wings. I’m really happy for Team & Player here. Nice Term & compensation IMHO and I hope he can more than earn it for you. Was cheering for his comeback and glad he got the opportunity to do so.

Also good to see positive news for you folks as you continue to right the ship. Again, nice signing/extension.

Cheers

Was predicting something better than the old Athanasiou contract for him (3.0M, 2 years)

Season 2017-18
- Athanasiou, 71 games, 16+17=33 points (0.46 points per game), 15:19 min per game --> Then 24-year old, got 3.0M, 2 years.

Season 2019-20
- Fabbri, 52 games, 14+17=31 points (0.60 points per game) 17:16 min per game --> Currently 24-year old, got 2.95M, 2 years

Good deal.

I thought he'd get ~3.5-4.25 & 3-4yrs, so this is even better, flexibility & cheap. We likely won't have an actual 2C within the next 1 yr so that'll keep his #'s in check on his next contract, which he'll really have to earn.
