He does realize he's a kicker, right?

Odds they just tell him to pound sand and cut him because kickers are literally a dime a dozen.

Good kickers are not. He’s one of the best.

Strange that a K is exercising this kind of pull. He’s not a D or O guy so his chances of injury are slim so playing in the tag isn’t a big deal compared to other players.

Wonder what the issue is.

He's one of the better kickers in the league, will be interesting to see what kind of interest there would be in him around the league.

Reports before the franchise tag was placed were that he wanted to come back to Chicago and finish career here

I imagine that is his endgame here

Yeah, pretty obvious it’s not a money thing.

He wants to be in Chicago with his family

No one will trade for him but the Bears, because he probably won’t be willing to play anywhere else

Want in one hand, shit in the other. See which one fills up first.

He can retire or play if the Niners can't find a suitable replacement.

SF holds all the cards here. They will sign another K and roll with him if shoulders does not sign. The only issue to them is keeping his tag cap hit available should he ultimately end up signing with them.

Seems whack that a guy in his late 30’s is restricted from going into free agency.

NFLPA really needs to get that tag eliminated in the next cba.
