RIP Rick Azar - First TV voice of the Sabres

Back in the '60s and 70's WKBW-TV was one of the most profitable TV stations in the US and Eyewitness News was #1 at 11 PM IN TORONTO.

In 1970 Azar teamed with a young Canadian talent Dave Hodge to do play by play of the Sabres on Channel 7.

In those years Canadian advertisers bought as much time on Buffalo stations as they could until Canada changed tax laws saying they could no longer deduct spending on a US station as a business expense.
