Gump is gone where all great rye drinkers one day are headed.. heaven. I wish I had witnessed this character first hand during his playing days. A pretty great wit to go with a hall of fame career.
He was vehemently opposed to wearing a mask. He was in fact the second-to-last goaltender to play without a mask. Asked about why he chose to go without he told reporters "My face is my mask."
My all-time favorite Gumpism is when he was playing for the Rangers and a reporter asked him which team gave him the hardest time -- and Gump's answer was, "The Rangers." Classic. RIP, Gump.
A four time Cup winner, a Hall of Famer and probably the best moment he had was in the 7th game of the Cup finals in '65. He shutout Chicago. Gump was a great goalie
I remmber watching the gump back in the 1960s with montreal and also in the 1970s with the minnesota north stars.i got to meet him at a local detroit sports show a few years ago and got his autograph. He will be missed.
