I find it hard to believe that any team that watched Reimer this year thinks that he can improve their team

Agreed. Though Holland did give 39 year old Mike Smith a 2 year deal to lead McDavid and the Oilers to the promised land.

I honestly don't see trading a late round pick for someone as something worse than signing them in free agency for a year

if anything i'd generally argue the other way around, they're both pretty small commitments but there's probably more options out there in the offseason than there is right now

Yzerman signed two unproven goalies with potential in Husso and Lyon and further hedged his bets by adding Reimer.

Holland signed Campbell to a 5 year deal when he had 1 season under his belt as the starter.

If Holland acquired Reimer (I don’t think he will) the difference between the two situations is pretty significant.
