I think this was probably it. He hit 50 on the nose with the hot start and scoring levels quite high. He did miss 5 games, but he’s also going to be 37 in September so playing every game is going to get harder as well, even for someone as durable as him. He should still top 40 next year though.

Ovie had a magnificent start this season, but cooled down towards the end.

Do you think he can get another 50 goal season to have the all time record or the age will take its toll?

No, I think his age will finally start catching up with him.

HF experts were telling me he was too old at age 33, he scored 51. Then he was definitely done at 34, scored 48 in 68 GP (58 goal pace). At 36 there was absolutely no chance, scored 50 in 77. Maybe it's time to accept that this guy clearly isn't normal and doubting him only makes you look foolish. League GPG is going up and the game is getting less physical every year. No reason to vote no until he actually doesn't do it.

But this time we mean it.

There's nothing realistic about Ovechkin's entire career. It wasn't realistic for him to win 7 of the last 10 rockets between his late 20's through mid 30's.

Until he stops doing it, the expectation is he does it again.

He had 32 and 38 goal seasons in 2011 and 2012 and then came back and put up 5 more 50 goal seasons after that. I will continue to give him the benefit of the doubt until it is very apparent he has slowed down for good. So yes, I say he gets at least one more 50 goal season.

Pretty wild that he came within in 2 goals of having 11 right now. But that can go both ways, he hit exactly 50 three times, and 51 twice. Glad he made the mark those years.

This is my best guess as well as the Capitals will do everything to have him score goals.

I think the better question is will he be in the top 10 in goals next season?

To be fair he was done in 2010-11 when he acored less than 40 goals.

but yeah, dude just did it. No reason that he doesn't do it again

Ovie is a tank, but it’s a young man’s game. The hockey season is like 30 games too long. It’s a brutal sport, it should not be 82 games.

He will start hot because he’s Ovie. But unless they’re pumping him full of TRT, he’s gonna have a slower recovery time than the schedule permits.

The team is under obligation to win games, not cater to Ovie’s personal achievements. They can start him more in the Ozone. But at some point next season, those top 6 even strength minutes are coming down.

But if he has a strong year on the PP, which lets be real is very likely, he for sure could hit 50 even with reduced 5on5 minutes.

Yes, I voted more than 1. Have to take in consideration that offense is up in NHL and part of that is due to a lack thereof in elite goaltenders today. Not to mention Ovie wants that record and he’s going to get it!

We should all know better by now.

How long will Ovy score 50?

For as long as he wants.

I hope he never sniffs 50 goals. He's a grade a asshole of a person. But still one of the best to play the game. Sadly.
