Last night I was watching the Pens/Caps game & Ed Olczyk mentioned in the pre game that even though the Pens are sitting atop in the Metropolitan Division, their real season doesn't begin for them till the playoffs start. Meaning the Playoffs is where it counts, yes they first must make it there which they have been. Then they can't win.
Dan Bylsma isn't the right coach for the Pens. It doesn't matter if he won a cup in 09. He coached only 25 games in the regular season that year & it was do or die for the Pens. His real coaching style came the following years. Here's his coaching stats,
Season G W L T OTL PCT Playoffs
2008-09 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 25 18 3 0 4 0.800 Won Championship
2009-10 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 82 47 28 0 7 0.616 Lost in round 2
2010-11 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 82 49 25 0 8 0.646 Lost in round 1
2011-12 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 82 51 25 0 6 0.659 Lost in round 1
2012-13 Pittsburgh Penguins NHL 48 36 12 0 0 0.750 Lost in round 3
