It was announced only 1679 in Portland.... We expected it though because its Wednesday and the Red Sox were on TV. Attendance is tough for the first half of the season regardless of the league because of the NFL, Baseball and HS Football. Once we get into December, it should be pick up.

3 of the 5 games played yesterday were under 2,000. The other two games had 2,536 and 2,412. These numbers are somewhat expected for mid week games during October.

Last nights game only 1800 fans in attendance . is this happening everywhere . or is this the possible begining of the end

Hey, that is actually a good number.

Imagine this. Here in Slovakia, where actually ice-hockey is The Sport (Nr. 2 after football, and see they hype about next WCH tickets), there are games in our top league with 500 and sometimes even less people.

Costs are much higher here. Slovakia is smaller than the area of New England, and the teams probably can bus their players very cheaply for every single league game. Not sure the pay structure there either, but the coaching staff, players, support staff, and front office all probably make a lot less.

Reading's division footprint is the size of Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and then some even if you don't include Newfoundland, who are pretty much halfway into the Atlantic Ocean. Take into account jet fuel and the the other big costs of a running a hockey team in America, and they need as many butts in seats, filled corporate boxes, and money coming in as they can get.

There are plenty of midweek ECHL games with less than 1000 in attendance. There are many with around 500. They just fudge the numbers.

It's a weekend league which has to play some midweek games. The Cyclones do $1 beer on every weeknight game. They get between 1500 and 3500 for them. Midweek games in Cincinnati are basically a bar with $1 beer and a $17 cover charge. Without the buck beer, attendance would be under 1000 on a regular basis.

Its Reading, its a Pennsylvania city, there is very little cause for concern. These Pennsylvania towns love their hockey and baseball teams. Midweek games, World Series, high school fall sports, all affect attendance.
