Kopitar would probably be the #2 pick IMO, Staal into the top 10 over Lee, Oshie into the top 15, Stastny into the first round and probably top 15.

I can't help but think that Colorado did very well for a team that had no first rounder. They sneaked two of em down in the 2nd. Stoa and Stastny could have both been picked in the first.

Big jumps also for Oshie, Latendresse and Vlasic while Lee, Setoguchi, Ryan and Zagrapan's stock might have fallen a bit. Roussin is just off the map. I could also mention Brule has having taken a plunge (shades of Corey Locke) but the jury's still out on him yet.

Same goes for the others I've mentionned though. It's still too early to call anyone a bust...

Except maybe Dany "Crosby made me" Roussin. :sarcasm:

This draft still leaves a horribly bitter taste in my mouth. The Caps were one of the worst teams in the league the previous year and got a mid-round pick for it b/c of some arbitrary lottery ball rule the nhl came up with. Here's a big old **** you. :p:

IMO, I would move Carey Price UP to 3rd or 4th overall (maybe even 2nd overall!! Just to defy all the ones who doubted Price;) :p.

Nothing against Price but it is really worth picking a goalie that high when he will be a UFA at 27 and probably won't mature till 24/25ish like most goalies do? With the new UFA rules, you have to think twice before drafting a goalie so high.

Technically he CAN be a UFA at that age...but who says he is not signed to a multi year contract at 25 or 26...There are a lot of "what if's" you can play out in these situations.....

I still think Price is top 10, but like i said with the new UFA rules, i would be sort of scared picking a goalie so high as some suggested knowing he will probably not be in his peak till his late 20s. With forwards you will more likely get more good years out of them before they are UFA or get to sign a big RFA deal.

Okay, so I re-ranked the players completely arbitrarialy by myself by Forward, Defence, and Goalies, then plunked 'em down where they SHOULD have landed. So, even though, for instance, Minnesota at #4 could probably use a top goalie prospect in Carey Price, at the time they were looking for a forward, so that's what I've given them here.

Where players were actually picked in parentheses

1. PIT Sidney Crosby (1)
2. ANA Anze Kopitar (11)

T.J. Oshie went 21-24-45 in his freshman year playing 2nd line on a deep UND team while Andrew Cogliano was only 12-16-28 in 5 fewer games at Michigan; this year, Cogliano is 15-11-26 playing 2nd lineon a deep UM team while Oshie is 6-14-20 playing a lot of 1st line and having played through a broken thumb. You drop Oshie from 24th to 29th, while Cogliano jumps from 25th to 7th. I'd really like to see the reasoning behind this.

I'd also like to see some kind of explanation why Taylor Chorney is ahead of Oshie, too - because that one is equally as baffling. And some of these guys ... holy overrated, Batman! Downie at 4? LeTang at 14? Franzen at 26? Tom Pyatt at 23? I think you're putting way too much stock in the recent WJC with some of these guys.
