RD Philip Larsen (2008, 149th, DAL; 2016 signed, VAN)

Hi guys, I was just wondering what you're thinking about Philip Larsen. I heard he has a skill set similar to Tobias Enstrom.

His physical aspect from what i have heard is his big ?. He is sound defensively in his own zone, has good speed and see's the ice better than most. He was recalled from Texas (AHL) and will be on the bench tonight Vs. the Kings.

Sorry for the massive resurrection, but I'm curious about this guy.
Can Dallas/Edmonton fans give insight on why he was never able to crack the NHL full time? His stats indicate that he has enough offensive skill to at least be a bottom pairing, PP specialist type dman?

I didnt mind him. He could move puck and really skate. Defensively he was lost at times and looked more promising as a winger.

But honestly, he came up in Eakins era Oilers. That guy made every player look horrible so I wouldnt read to much into his NHL stint with them. He made Anton Belov (at the time was one of Russias best D, similar to Zaitev now) look pretty horrible in NHL and catch first plane back to KHL

I wouldnt be surprised to see him look good in NHL next year. I know Chiarelli was trying to get him to come to NA last year (that is what was said when he was dealt for a pick)

He had his moments in Edmonton. Clearly a gifted player. His skating looked so effortless and smooth and he was quick. I think if he came to North America this year, he would play for the Oilers in a PP capacity.

Looked better as a winger than he did as a defenseman.

But that was 3 years ago, so who knows. I could see him being a PP specialist in this league.

Very good skater, very good vision, not a lot to his frame...smart player, but needed to be more assertive defensively...Enstrom finds a way to do it with intelligence (and reach because of that way-too-long-for-his-body stick that he uses), Larsen ought to be able to as well...it's a matter of urgency/desire in that regard...

I'm a fan. Great skater with good hands, can QB a PP, he's on the small side so certain things in his own end are problems (outmuscled). He was pretty beloved by Eakins it seemed but had some freak injury that kept him out of the lineup for seemingly forever. I'd take him as a 3RD on the oilers

Canucks have signed him and he will likely be in our lineup many times. Traded for his rights a while back.
