“An offensive minded two-way defender Justin Huynh is an eye-catching player with one of the highest hockey IQ’s in his age group. Justin is incredibly smart with and without the puck. He knows what to do with it when it’s on his stick, he has wicked vision that allows him to make passes no one else sees both in his own zone breaking out and the offensive zone. In the offensive zone with the puck Justin has great shot utilization, he doesn’t shoot unless he sees a good lane and would rather hold the puck for an extra second then take an easily blocked shot. Justin makes great decisions as well pinches when it makes sense but doesn’t overcommit. In his own zone Justin is responsible positionally and is good at breaking up developing plays and turning them around for an odd man rush. Justin has a good transitional game; he has great first passes but can also carry the puck out. Huynh is working on finding another gear speed wise, though he’s a smooth skater he is looking at finding the next level speed wise. Justin quarterbacks his teams powerplay and played an integral role in its success. He did also play on the penalty kill as well. quarterbacking the powerplay of one of the best teams in Ontario, Justin has all the skills to be a future QB for a team at the next level.”

Why are so many elite young forwards in the 5'9" range? Seems to be a sweet spot.

He’s not a forward, and I wouldn’t trust EP on any of the measurements of undrafted players.
Thanks! My bad. The 5'9" caught my eye and I assumed.

As for EP and the measurements...

That's fair but it seems like elite young forwards are getting smaller and smaller all the time - someone over 6 feet seems to be the exception. Unfortunately, the NHL likes their players big and a lot of these smaller players don't get the looks they deserve.

Shocked, myself. There has to be something going on there, but I haven’t seen anything suggesting he’s pursuing any other routes.
Never seen him play . Is he is good as you’d have us believe or just one of those Jan kids who was fully grown at 13..14 playing on a super-team . Just asking …

Definitely not, he is small in stature at 16 while simultaneously he’s not a fantastic skater, he still has plenty of time to grow. Just a bad combination of attributes to have.
He has phenomenal offensive instincts however and thinks the game as well as most any player his age.

I guess we’ll see how his career plays out, but even if there are reservations about his skating/height combo, he should be a very good OHLer - getting him in the 7th round is an absolute steal.

Drafted by Sudbury in the seventh round of the OHL draft. Odd he went that low.

dont think hes nearly as good as profiled. draft kind of suggested that. he wont make the wolves next year. a bit of hype not matching substance.
