Stay at home, like our Dan Girardi. Folin has some nice hands, good shot from the point, but I think he's solid enough in his own end that he could eventually be a shutdown guy who throws a good shoulder and can move the puck.

So, a new Swedish NHL-export hot.
Or rather it is highly likely. Recent data MrMadhawk.se obtain through the evening and night reveals that Folin, who spent the last three seasons in North America, the latest of college and NCAA team UMass-Lowell has an NHL deal extremely close. Allegedly Ottawa previously shown interest. But now it's about another Canadian team, namely the Vancouver Canucks. Folin should be close to signing a two-way contract over two years. What's interesting here is that this is a player who never played in the top division either or headlines. As thus is very close to sign an NHL contract. now it will probably be mostly AHL games for the 22-year-old Swede. But he will of course get the chance to show off in front of club management during camp and during a friendly match, on the same terms as the other. , it is not entirely clear. However, one is very close to a deal. It is quite an advanced stage. Folin has reportedly hesitated on whether he wanted to interrupt their college studies, but now it seems to stand the case. And who had not done it for a NHL contract? Although it is a two-way contract.

LOWELL, MASS. — Former Austin Bruin Christian Folin is quickly making a name for himself.

Folin, who played with the Bruins from 2010-2012, recently finished his freshman season at University of Massachusets-Lowell, where he earned a starting spot on the defensive side of the puck and he played in the Division I Frozen Four.

“It’s been a crazy journey. I couldn’t imagine anything like this,” said Folin. “Everyone on our team chipped in and we got better with every game. Playing in the Frozen Four was pretty intense, but it was just a hockey a game and I enjoyed it.”

The 6-3, 210-pound native of Gothenburg, Sweden had six goals and 15 assists in 38 games for the Riverhawks, who finished 28-11-2 overall. UWL lost 3-2 in overtime in the Frozen Four semifinals to eventual national champion Yale.

Folin said he learned a lot about the game of hockey when he played for the Bruins and he gave credit to head coach Chris Tok and the supportive community of Austin.

“Playing with the Bruins prepared me a lot for Division I hockey. Especially playing under coach Tok,” Folin said. “He’s a great teacher and he’s one of the biggest reasons for my success here.”

Tok knew that Folin had a chance to play at the next level when he was with the Bruins, but he didn’t know it would happen so soon.

“Working with Christian every day you could see that he possessed something special,” Tok said. “We knew he would be a very good college player, but we did think it would take a little longer for him to completely adjust to that level. He looks so confident on the ice, just like he was still playing here.”

Folin, who is 22 years old, has already been the subjects of NHL rumors as the Ottawa Senators’ fan Web Site said there were conflicting reports of him signing with Ottawa, but Folin said he hasn’t signed with anyone and he plans on staying at UML.

“I just want to get better and in three years I want to be ready for whatever may come,” Folin said. “I think if I keep working hard for the next three years, (the NHL) can happen. But a lot can happen in three years, so I’m not counting on it.”

Folin has kept up with the Bruins this season as he’s spoken to forward CJ Smith, who has committed to UML and Tok throughout the year.

Tok, who said Folin playing in the Frozen Four will help the Bruins recruit players in the future, has been sure to keep Folin updated on the success of his former team.

“I talk to him once a month to check up on things and he gives me crap for the team being better this year,” Folin said.

The Bruins set a franchise record for wins this season and they won the team’s first NAHL Central regular season title. The Bruins played in the NAHL Central finals last season, and they are currently tied 1-1 with Minot in the NAHL Central semifinals this season.

Games three and four will be held in Minot, N.D. Friday and Saturday at 7:35 p.m. If the series comes down to a game five, it will be held in Austin Monday at 7:05 p.m

He mentioned today that Minnesota and Philly are front runners.

Edmonton, Ottawa and Montreal mentioned of the Canadian teams.

He also said last week that Boston was in on it.

Tampa is always in on the college guys.

But I can actually see Folin signing with Edmonton. It would be easy for him to crack the roster as the Oilers badly need a 3rd pairing RHD.

Klefbom-Folin would be a good pairing.

Honestly I could see him fitting on all 4 teams mentioned, really. They could all use a big RHD. Who couldn't?

It may come down to who is willing to give him ice time right away.

Can all 4 teams do that?

Edmonton-Yes

That's the team I thought he'd sign with as well.

Being a Flyers fan, we only have one RHD on the current roster in Schenn and no real RHD prospects prospects in the pipeline. No guarantee Timonen or MacDonald are back. Grossmann and Schenn are replaceable. He would fit in. The GM went so far as to hint at it (tampering anyone?). I'm not getting my hopes up though, I've seen this movie play out before. Hope I'm wrong.

Remember Bob likes to stroke the Canadian contingent. I just can't see Folin signing with the Oilers unless they know they're not getting Morrison, who in my humble opinion, will be a better player.

It would be interesting though if Vancouver ended up with Morrison and the Oilers with Folin, as this time last year it was completely the opposite.

Every team can use a big RHD. It's why they're always given a one up on other players. It's the hardest thing to find in the sport.

If I'm the Flyers I go all out for him. He has the ability to really help them. Some time with a vet like Timmonen would be great for him.

I just think there's better fits for his style. Whether those teams are interested is an entire different story. Out of the teams mentioned Ottawa is the best system fit.

Tampa is always in on College Free Agenda because they are able to develop them good and give everybody a chance. Thats also the reason why so many sign with us. We were the second leading team on DeKeyser as well..

Anyways back to Folin, honestly if I were him I wouldn't sign with Edmonton. No prospect since Hall is able to live up to their Hype so far and a lot of them really fall off again, that screams bad development and the last thing I would want as a College FA is bad development. They might be his easiest way to the NHL rinks, but what helps being in the NHL right away if you are out of it after three years? A player that develops a year or two in the minors and has a longer career afterwards will earn much more Money.

So I think it will not be Edmonton. If I would have to Chose I would go to Minny or Tampa cause of development.
