Young Stars tournament played amongst rookies for the Western Canadian NHL teams.

Perfect 1st game in an Oilers uniform, he looked good everywhere on the ice. Skates very well and has great defensive instincts. Distributed the puck well, made tape-to-tape passes, and broke up several plays due to his defensive positioning and effort.

He's in for a fantastic season with Barrie now that he's not playing behind Clarke.

That skating and IQ combo is gonna give him a high floor at the next level even if his pure physical upside isn’t huge.

Especially when McDavid gets his next contract the Oilers are going to need to continue to backfill with young, cheap players they can count on to be contributors. They can’t be missing on a lot of high picks because they just don’t and probably won’t have that many. In a really sparse 2023 class for the organization they really made their one decently high pick count with Akey.

He has been in-and-out of games for the past month, and then this news came out today. Terrible luck for him, losing your D+1 is brutal for development, and shoulders are almost never the same after surgery.
