They're close in most early power rankings and share similar points totals. They both have a mix of veterans and star young players. Whether you're a Leafs homer or Jets homer, or a truly impartial hockey fan, try to separate bias and let's compare the primary core pieces out of 100 for two of the top Canadian NHL teams at the moment.

Where are the matchups closest? Where does one team have a clear edge over the other?

Scheifele: /100
Matthews: /100

Laine: /100
Nylander: /100

Wheeler: /100
JVR: /100

Ehlers: /100
Marner: /100

Connor: /100
Hyman: /100

Little: /100
Kadri: /100

Perrault: /100
Kamorov: /100

Tanev: /100
Marleau: /100

Lowry: /100
Moore: /100

Buyfuglien: /100
Rielly: /100

Trouba: /100
Gardiner: /100

Haven't we been through this... like 1000 times?

I suspect it was more about Matthews versus Laine, or simply using chevrons to indicate preference, and less about trying to quantify these particular matchups out of 100.

However, if these groupings and scores out of 100 have been attempted recently then I stand corrected and would love to see that thread.

Oh god.....why? I don’t get the fascination with some fans......Jets couldn’t careless about the Leafs and Leafs couldn’t careless about the Jets. West vs East, really have very little to do with each other.

I predict this thread will generate insightful analysis from all parties involved

For the guys with only a few years NHL experience or less one has to consider upside, which is why Laine is higher than Wheeler. For the older guys it's more about what are they doing lately.

Scheifele: 92/100
Matthews: 95/100

Laine: 89/100
Nylander: 86/100

Wheeler: 87/100
JVR: 76/100

Ehlers: 84/100
Marner: 82/100

Connor: 77/100
Hyman: 75/100

Little: 72/100
Kadri: 79/100

Perrault: 67/100
Kamorov: 69/100

Tanev: 63/100
Marleau: 79/100

Lowry: 68/100
Moore: 67/100

Buyfuglien: 86/100
Rielly: 84/100

Trouba: 81/100
Gardiner: 75/100

Myers: 78/100
Hainsey: 74/100

Morrissey: 79/100
Zaitsev: 71/100

Literally the only thing these two teams have in common is we’re both at similar spots in our rebuilds/retool. Short of us meeting in the SC final, which is unrealistic at this point, we have very little to do with each other.

Why don’t you compare the Leafs vs another eastern team or the Jets vs a western team. Makes more sense then comparing them to each other

They're the 2 best Canadian NHL teams in the league.
They feature two of the best young Cs in the league in Scheifele and Matthews.
They feature two of the best young Fin/Swedish snipers in the league in Laine and Nylander.
Ehlers and Marner highlights could come from the same player. Both similarly sized speedsters of a similar age with great hands.
They both feature a mix of vets and rising NHL youth.
Both teams have similar point totals at the moment and both cores have been hyped up in hockey media.
They're 2 sides of the same coin in opposing conferences and could face each other in the Stanley Cup Finals within the next 2-3 years if both play up to their potential and get hot goaltending at the right time.
