Rank these players based on their value on the ice during their primes (6 year period).

*I personally don't know if the 03 season should count for Forsberg since it's breaking the rules but: 1: I think it adds context, 2: I'm OCD so I'd like there to be 2 100 pt seasons, 3: He's a weak link without it imo and I want 10 contestants so pls don't bring it up

I want to vote Crosby based on how insane he was on the ice, although he missed good chunks of time.

Crosby should have zero votes. 3 seasons he was injured and in the 3 he was healthy, OV was clearly better than him in 2 of them. Basically a vote for Crosby is saying his 3 seasons are better than 6 from OV, Jagr, Lafleur which is an absolute joke.

I specified to judge by their value on the ice because this is more about measuring them at their best than their ability to stay healthy. If this was about their careers as a whole I'd agree with your sentiment tho.

Surprised by the lack of Lafleur. He was basically made for a 6 consecutive season question. His combination of health and consistency is better than anyone else here and it lines up perfectly with a 5 season run of playoff dominance where he led the playoffs in scoring 3 times. His whole legacy is based almost entirely on these seasons.

That's precisely why I made this thread honestly. There was a thread about him in the HoH section I saw that inspired the idea.

Value on ice means you have to be on the ice doesn't it? The fact that Crosby only won 1 hart and 1 lindsay during this time proves what the media and and players thought of his value and performances. In the given times Jagr won multiple lindsays and rosses. Lafleur multiple harts, lindsays and rosses. OV multiple harts, lindsays and rockets. OV was clearly better than Crosby in 07/08-09/10. Crosby was better in 06/07. Value on ice is clearly OV.

Im confused. Is this best 6 consecutive years or best prime?

Crosby hands down has the best prime.
But best 6 consecutive years - no. Prime to me can be more than 6 years

If its 6 consecutive seasons Lafleur and Jagr tower over the rest - with edge to Lafleur due to playoffs (Jagr edge in reg season).

If its overall prime - Crosby. #2 gets interesting. Jagr or Ov are likely best options, maybe others. Maybe even Lafleur

For this particular question, I'm comfortable going with my avatar. There's a reason Lafleur has the most bolded numbers in his boxscore.

I don't think anyone else here has a better total combination of:

1. Regular Season Numbers/Trophies (Six 50-goal, 100-point seasons in row, 3 Ross, 2 Hart, and 3 Pearson)
2. Playoff Numbers/Trophies (led playoffs in scoring 3 times in a row, Conn Smythe)
3. Clutch Play
4. Stanley Cup Results
5. On-ice artistry (played the game beautifully)
6. Fan Adoration (far and away the most popular of his time, and still one of the most popular all time)
7. Best-Player-in-the-World Status (his short reign was after Bobby Orr and before Wayne Gretzky)

Really, the only problem with Guy was the length of his prime (too short). He wasn't a superstar out of the gate, and then a car crash saw his ability fall off sharply. A few more years at his 6 year prime level would have put him in the next tier with players like Bobby Hull and Jean Beliveau.

The wording in the OP leads me to select Lafleur. Jagr gives him very stiff competition but he also missed essentially a quarter of two seasons.

Jagr should win by a landslide, nobody has a better resume in their respective 6 years stretch (Lafleur is the only one who comes close)

Jagr (from 1995-2000)

Hart finish : 1-2-2-2-4
Point finish : 1-1-1-1-2-5
Goal finish : 2–2-2-4-5-7
Assist finish : 1-1–2-3–6-11
PPG finish : 1-1-1-2-2-3

5x 1st All Star team Selection
1x 2nd AST selection

4 Art Ross
2 Pearson
Hart (1999)

Also, Jagr’s playoffs stats aren’t too bad either, he had some good to great run in 1995, 1996 & 2000.

If it's just resumes I can't see how Jagr has Lafleur beaten.

Lafleur (from 1975-1980)

Hart finish : 1-1-2-3-4-5
Point finish : 1-1-1-3-3-4
Goal finish : 1–2-2-2-3-7

6x 1st All Star team Selection

3 Art Ross
3 Pearson
2 Hart
Conn Smythe

Better playoff runs than Jagr had, finished 1, 1, 1, 2, 3 in playoff scoring during the six year span. Players aren't their resumes of course but in a six year span it's possible that fewer than a handful of players in NHL history have Lafleur beaten.

My bad, I was only looking at the stats according to the OP and It looks like he forgot to bold Lafleurs' 76 & 78 season as points leader, which gives him 3 Art Ross instead of one. It's a big difference maker.

Change my vote for Lafleur
