I know this topic has basically been beaten to death by now, but I thought it would be interesting to see lists with little larger samples. I felt that the discussion was mainly between the absolute best rookies this season. Here's my top 15 (posting via mobile so cannot space): 1. Matthews 2. Laine 3. Werenski 4. Marner 5. Nylander 6. Tkachuk 7. Provorov 8. Guentzel 9. Aho 10. Rantanen 11. Point 12. Morrissey 13. Skjei 14. Mantha 15. Zaitsev

Matt Murray, even though this is his second cup run he is still a rookie.

I barely saw some of these guys but man did Laine impress me when I watched him play.

Sebastian Aho had about as good a season as you could've expected for someone who had never played the North American brand of hockey.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him put up 65pts next season.

Was that the really fast guy? I think he scored against us.

From the Wild, Joel Eriksson Ek was great. He only played 15 games for us this season, but produced at a solid rate (7 points).

Excited to see him with the Wild next season. Was also a part of Sweden WHC team.

Anyone like Onrej kase? 7th round pick and was on the ducks at 21. I think he was an underrated rookie.

As a fan of the Jets and Rangers, I got to see a lot of Morrissey and Skjei (and Laine of course) and both of them impressed me far more than I expected.

For some reason nhl doesn't list Anderson as a rookie (only 20 nhl games in 2 seasons prior) but he's easily in the top 20 of rookies. 29 pts and 17 goals strictly in a bottom 6 role and no PP time. He's a better Boone Jenner imo

Also no Marcus Nuutivara? He was a 7th round pick and stepped directly on the team out of camp, he only missed time this season because he had a hip problem nagging him from December on.

Anderson in really underrated. He could be a terror to play against for years. He, in some ways, looks like the closest thing to a young Lucic than many of the guys that were drafted to be that.

I don't know how you rate them, but its a mind boggling class. Probably the best ever.

He's not a rookie because he's played 6 or more games in 2 previous seasons. Same rule that will prevent Kapanen from being rookie eligible next year.

Rookie Qualifications
To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in more than 25 NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie.

Carlo really flew under the radar. Solid de facto #2 as a 20-year old.

Matt murray should have been in the top 3 if not the winner.

32-10-4. 4 shutouts. 49 games. 2.41 goals against. .923 sv%.
