You really grasping at straws if you think he stunted the growth of the young players. Mci, Miller, Lindberg had their highest NHL minutes this past season. McIlrath was given more icetime this past season than other nhl comparables in their first full season.

Sorry but not nearly good enough re: McIlrath playing time.

He was arguably our best right dman last year (if not 2nd best re: Klein). No excuse for AV benching him and playing the brutal twins instead- Boyle & Girardi. Other "comparables" may actually have to compete with actual NHL level dmen for playing time.

FWIW (not much of course) - the only game we beat the Pens in the playoffs was the only game McIlrath was allowed to play.

I can understand all that, you got a point criticizing his playing time, but no way was his growth stunted when he's on schedule for a guy his age.
